Serpent and Barrel

Down amongst the dockside buildings and amenities of Rockreach Harbour in Steinwark sits in well aged and much patched and amended tavern named the Serpent and Barrel. Appearing to be made of ancient, weather worn timbers, some salvaged from ship hulls or masts the tavern feels ancient and well worn exhibiting a pleasant smoky aroma with a hint of sea salt. The windows of the tavern are rare, but are made of many small squares of thick, rippled and distorted glass, enough to let in a little moonlight or to exhibit a hint of warm light inside to those passing by. The tavern is favoured by dock workers, and marines of the Esterreach Sentinels within the admiralty who find themselves in the city for an evening or a longer break. The tavern is also popular with crews of trade ships of various sorts who are in the harbour and haven't had cause to venture further into the city or who seek to avoid too much attention. Though many in the Serpent and Barrel are wary and watchful, few seem ready to report its goings-on to outsiders.

As such, the tavern is often a hub for exchanges and meetings between diverse peoples. Particularly those who wish a certain amount of anonymity that may be found in the many nooks and alcoves of the tavern.

A pair of Orc twins called Tabitha and Govar guard the main door of the tavern, keeping eye on how dangerous those who come and go may be and standing ready to intercede if needed.

The bar is generally manned by the elder Dwarf Hovrek and he is ably assisted by the barmaids Jeska (a Copper Dragonborn) and Tanya (a Human woman) who move deftly through the throngs and keep the flow of drinks and food hitting the many tables. Assisting at times, though they conentrate their efforts in the kitchens is an extended family of Halflings usually called the Barrel Clan who seem to be the actual owners.

The sound of a bard or minstrel can usually be found drifting down from the upper floors of the bar, adding to the pressed atmosphere. It is clear that many things, legal and otherwise can be obtained in the tavern alongside it's home brewed dwarven ale and spiced fried potato skins. This includes the services of the companions or sex workers that can usually found gathered here or there in the tavern, awaiting eager customers of various tastes. One known as Armesia seems to be a favourite of Taryn Darkblade, though both being young crimson hued Tieflings, they have a similar appearance.

For those with a taste of alternate elixirs and who know what to look for, the Elven entrepeneur Falkresh can often be found at the Serpent and Barrel or not far away. He is a sly figure with quick eyes and a deal maker's smile that says he trades in potions, oils, and tonics.
