Judie Trerbon
Judie Trerbon is the despotic head of state of the Free Republic of Glehrheu. He rose to power in 1348 CE, supported by the Glehl nationalist movement. Many of the people who backed him have since been imprisoned or executed.
Trerbon was a syntagmatarchis in the Kaisan Colonial Auxiliaries prior to the revolution. While only Kaisans are able to serve as officers, his half-Kaisan heritage allowed him to achieve the rank. By all accounts, he was a brilliant and ambitious soldier and officer, though his peers noted that he had a cruel streak and was prone to partying.
In the late 1330s, as the highest ranking Glehlan officer in the Kaisan Army, Trerbon was approached by Baren Zijbrie, a thaumaturge and Glehl nationalist. He and other members of the nationalist movement wanted Trerbon to lead a nationalist uprising against Kaisa and would give him a position of power in the new government. He agreed, and they began planning.
In 1348, as the Last War was fully turning against Kaisa, the nationalists made their move. Forces loyal to Trerbon seized radio and transportation infrastructure across the province, and announcements immediately went out declaring their independence. Already weakened considerably by the war, Kaisa was unable to give more than token resistance. Drizhni, which had entered the war in 1345, was willing to sign a white peace with the new nation, rather than continue a miserable campaign in the mountains of the Glehrheu Peninsula.
With independence established, Trerbon declared himself the "president-commander." Nearly immediately, he turned around and began purging many of the people who had backed his rise to power. Baren Zijbrie was one of the exceptions. The thaumaturge became a close advisor to Trerbon, despite his lack of an official title within the state.
