Deities began to impinge upon one-another's creations. Discord festered, until the first blow was struck.
A brief history of the realm of Durath.
The major deities emerged from the Elemental Chaos. They used the safety of the Material Plane to shelter their creations, including the oldest of the mortal races. A brief utopia existed, but quickly the deities began to impinge on one-another's works. Peace did not last.
Deities began to impinge upon one-another's creations. Discord festered, until the first blow was struck.
Following The First War, deities returned to a period of peace, creation, and collaboration, under the watch of The Otlo.
The Otlo sensed growing rancour among the deities. In order to separate them, and avoid another Godswar, The Otlo created The Outer Planes.
The Otlo sensed that another war was imminent; Accord was failing. While deities clashed in the Material Plane, there could be no peace between them.
The Deities abandoned the material plane. Their creations - the mortal races - were leaderless and lost. They began to think independently; developing cultures, languages, and identities. Soon after, they began to develop war.
Arcane magic is discovered. The exact details remain obscured by time but scholars broadly agree on the following: Artefacts of innate power were left behind by deities, discovered by the humanoid races, and studied for their properties.
Nyva's fruitless search for her sister saw her grow desperate for the plight of mortals. She sent her loyal servants to the Material Plane to protect against the creatures of darkness, but in doing so violated the Divine Accord. This was the mistake Hiqra had anticipated.
Hiqra took her chance to exploit The Divine Accord. She sent her Umbra Army to The Material Plane, led by her two favoured servants.
Though nobody knows what sparked the divide in the Umbra Army, all are clear of what followed. Hiqra's generals turned against one another - each seemingly vying for the ultimate favour of the Lady of Gloom. The Umbra Army was driven out. Routed and retreating, the commanding officers fled to The Hells, leaving the unorganised troops to be driven into The Abyss. As each of them toppled into the roiling havoc, they swore a blood oath to take their revenge, and to conquer the multiverse for their own. So began The Blood War, which rages to this day.
