Renown: The Card Game: The Article

Victory Condition
The first player to succeed at a Quest while having 20 Renown wins.
A Closer Look
Renown consists of several card types, each playing a unique role in how the game unfolds. Personalities
These are the characters you play as. Each one is an iconic figure in Gloria’s Landing, with their own attributes and flair. Your Personality is the point of view through which you gain Renown. Most have a base side which they begin on, and a prestige side, which they change to when they reach 10 Renown. Sister Carrie is the exception; she's perfect just the way she is.

The Starting Location sets the tone for the game. In the base set, everyone begins at Town Square, a neutral hub that all other Locations surround. It follows Gloria's Landing rules, which is the town you are playing in.
Town Square
This shared deck represents the town and its parts. It includes Actions, Followers, and Locations. Locations give new powers and build Gloria's Landing. Followers help complete Quests and gather around your Personality as they gain Renown. Actions let you gain an edge or disrupt your rivals in unique ways.
Helping Hand
Bodyguard
Thieves Guild
At all times, three Quests are available for anyone to attempt. Succeed and you gain Renown and rewards. Fail and you may lose Renown or suffer setbacks. Some cards in the deck are Catastrophes, which change the game state in dramatic ways, and must be completed before other Quests.
Mimic
Earthquake
Some cards in Renown are marked as Honorable or Dishonorable. Honorable cards typically reward more Renown or synergize with other honorable choices. Dishonorable cards let you kill followers, remove locations, or otherwise break the usual flow of play. If you use dishonorable cards or go on dishonorable Quests, Honorable followers may revolt, leaving play and going back into the Town Deck. You can’t have it both ways. Lean into one path, or take the risk of switching sides when it counts.

About the Artists
The look of Renown came together through collaboration, freedom, and a lot of creativity. We gave our artists room to explore and create the way they wanted. Most cards were designed with very little direction. A few had specific inspirations, like the Black Knight quest, which was made to nod at Monty Python. But most of what you see is what the artists came up with on their own. All the work happened in a shared Discord server, where artists posted sketches, gave feedback, and built off each other’s ideas. Some pieces were inspired by others in real time. That’s why you’ll see different versions of the same characters or shared styles across certain cards. The result is a wide mix of styles and mediums, all brought together by a shared love of fantasy, adventure, and a good bit of fun. Featured artists:
