Tenets of Faith

Horus is the god of kings, bestowing his divine blessings upon the earthly rulers who serve him. Although kings who revere Horus are fond of preaching about "divine right," Horus demands that monarchs rule wisely and justly, true to his lawful good alignment. His divine blessings can be taken away from those who prove themselves unworthy as quickly as they were given.   Horus is a martial god, boarding the Solar Barge every night to join Pelor on the nightly journey through the Twelve Hours of night. There he faces Set and his minions. His nightly battle in the underworld representing the constant warfare that good must wage against evil. Evil, in the Pharaonic mythos, primarily means Set and his servants, but includes Apothis as well. Set is Horus's uncle, and killed Osiris at least in part to usurp the throne that Horus wrested from his grasp, making the two deities implacable enemies. Horus teaches that vigilance and readiness of arms are absolutely necessary so that Set and his minions can never succeed in stopping the Solar Barge's nightly journey and assuming leadership of the pantheon.

Clergy and Temples

Horus's clerics are advisors to kings. Like most Pharaonic clergy, they wear white robes, but the upper leaders of his church also adorn themselves with golden crowns, bracers and other symbols of their high office.

Holidays

The Sanctification of Chivalry

This ceremony takes place on the day that Horus was crowned as the King of the Gods after Ra. The sanctification is a ceremony that must occur when a new High Priest of Horus is called.

The Feast of Maekrix

The feast involves a ceremony by which young men, and in certain societies young women, are assigned by Horus a quest that marks their coming-of-age. This quest is particularly important for members of royal families as one cannot become Heir to any Throne until after the successful completion of the quest. Non-royal families who are strict adherents to Horus's teachings often require this of their children as well.

History

Though the two deities are half-brothers, incest is not a concept that exists amongst the Pharaonic deities, since almost all of the deities are related in some way. Horus and Anubis were not raised together and had always considered themselves lovers before siblings. In fact, it wasn't until after their relationship formed that they found out about their shared father. They decided that such a thing did not matter and continued the relationship.

Shared Secrets

Their relationship, while known to certain deities, is not known to all and is never known to mortals. This is to protect its sanctity. Horus doesn't want anybody using his relationship with Anubis as ammunition to attack him. Osiris, Isis, Nephthys, and Thoth are the only deities who know about this relationship.
