Anubis

(a.k.a. Judge of the Dead)

Anubis is the Judge of the Dead, a Lawful Good deity who guides souls and presides over the objective judgment of justice. He weighs the heart against the Feather of Truth. His unique portfolios of Peace and Justice make death a natural, ordered transition rather than a malevolent force. His relationship with the God of War, Horus, embodies the balance between conflict and eternal repose.
Anubis appears as a male human. A neat mane of straight black hair falls over his shoulders.

Tenets of Faith

The core belief of the Order is that death is the ultimate form of peace and order, the final cessation of chaos in mortal life. Followers must dedicate their lives to rigorous spiritual and mental discipline, striving to live with such perfect justice that their hearts will balance the Feather of Truth without question. They revere Anubis as the supreme protector of the dead, believing his vigil ensures that no harm or disrespect—whether from grave robbers, necromancers, or the forces of Apothis—will ever be visited upon those who have entered their eternal repose. Though he holds knowledge of necromantic arts, his priests are forbidden from animating the dead, saving only mummies created as guardians for sacred tombs.

Clergy and Temples

The Judge of the Dead is seldom worshiped in public gatherings; his clerics are primarily solemn, learned professionals who officiate all funeral rituals. Temples are centers for embalming and sacred knowledge, functioning as secure repositories of the rites of death. While they are highly respected for their vital role in securing eternal peace, their association with the finality of death causes the common folk to remain distant. The clerics often adopt a serious, intimidating demeanor appropriate to their heavy duties.

History

Though the two deities are half-brothers, incest is not a concept that exists amongst the Pharaonic deities, since almost all of the deities are related in some way. Horus and Anubis were not raised together and had always considered themselves lovers before siblings. In fact, it wasn't until after their relationship formed that they found out about their shared father. They decided that such a thing did not matter and continued the relationship.

Shared Secrets

Their relationship, while known to certain deities, is not known to all and is never known to mortals. This is to protect its sanctity. Horus doesn't want anybody using his relationship with Anubis as ammunition to attack him. Osiris, Isis, Nephthys, and Thoth are the only deities who know about this relationship.
