The Sewers
- The air quickly shifts from damp and earthy to metallic and cold.
- The blood trail becomes less a pool and more of a misty residue, as if evaporated and re-condensed unnaturally—this is not normal blood behavior (Arcana DC 13 reveals faint Vigor interference).
- The walls are chalked with cryptic anatomical diagrams and inverted prayers—sections of scripture cut up and reassembled into surgical instructions.
What Happened Here?
This is a transit site, a staging zone where the Scalpel Man:
- Held the body temporarily—likely to complete a ritual incision or apply a sigil before public display.
- Cleaned and re-posed the corpse, using antiseptic and surgical tools left behind
- Medicine DC 14 finds a broken clamp stained with both human blood and his own
- finding this will allow players who have a connection with the doctors to test the blood for DNA
- Communed with the book—or what he believes the book wants—based on gibbering prayers scrawled onto the walls:
- “No soul but pattern. No pain but proof.”
- “Correction begins at the border of silence.”
Optional Discoveries
Investigation or Survival (DC 13)
- Drag marks suggest this wasn’t the only time a body was moved through here.
- The pattern of movement always heads toward a disused tunnel marked “Med Facility Overflow.”
Perception (DC 15)
- Players may hear a faint echo—not just water, but breathing. Something is still down here.
Insight (DC 14)
- The way the tools are arranged—like a ritual altar—suggests the killer isn’t just practicing medicine, but believes he’s performing sacred work, guided by visions or commandments.
Why Here Instead of the Surgical Lab?
- The Scalpel Man doesn’t always have time to return to the Surgical Bay.
- This location offers proximity to the body drop site (the library) while still remaining hidden.
- It’s where he performs "preliminary rites"—symbolic cleansing, sigil application, and the “opening whisper” ritual that binds the kill to the Book’s growing consciousness.
- This tunnel is closer to Nissa’s quarters than the Surgical Bay—suggesting the killer is circling her.
