Veil of the Sun
Shattered in the Godswar by the Curse of Destruction, the Fragments of a Sphere who's name is lost to time holds people clutching to life in the remnants of their world. Retaining some of the Ancient Technologies, they have crafted Voidships that allow travel between the Fragments, seeking resource to keep their societies alive. Across the Fragments nations rise and fall, societies raid and trade, do war with each other, and try to protect their people from the ever encroaching void.
Geography
Fragments
The Fragments range from a mile in circumference to a hundred miles. Those that were Fragments of the surface have self sustaining biomes that are easily habitable. Other Fragments that have no atmosphere have been colonized for resource extraction. Many Fragments are inhabited, but many more are not. Fixed settlements on fragments are typically described as Outposts.
The Void
Beyond the fragments there is the Void where magic breaks down and technology fails. Voidships that cross into the void are generally lost. Some may be drawn back into the Veil of the Sun by the gravitational tides, or make it to another sphere where they generally crash. The rest are lost, frozen lifeless crypts for those who sailed them.
History
Each Fragment has its own history, but all began at the Godswar. It was the sharp delineation between before and now. Since then the habitable Fragments have developed, focusing on retaining the Ancient Technology and Magics that allow them to survive the spaces between Fragments.
Government
The governments of Fragments range from autocratic dictatorships to syndicalist democracies and everything in between.
Religion
There is very little religion in the Veil of the Sun. The people all know the Old Gods are gone, and the new Gods haven't taken hold. As there are no Gods there is not hope of an afterlife, so the people of the Fragments tend to be atheistic and believe that this life is all the existence there is. There are a rising population of Pactmages as there are plenty of desperate situations where a person would accept the intervention or powers from a Spirit.
