Corumant

Second moon to the planet Toril , Corumant is a small but beautiful moon and, according to legend, the bedrock of magic for it's planet. Accompanied by his sister, Selûne, the source of nourishment and manifestation to its superior constellation, the two are ,what myth tells us, the foundation for what their progenitor has come to be known by, "The Cradle of Life".

Localized Phenomena

A part of the land, named The Magician's Veil, has been closed off from the rest of the land by an unknown and strange fog bank and magical barrier. It was a newly discovered piece of land that was meant to be colonized, as it was extremely rich in resources and had numerous magical leylines running through it. During the colonization however, which was widely agreed to be the tipping point in which of The First Races would rule The True Isles, Reports stopped coming in from any clan or race and the fog gathered around the land.   Since the fog cleared and the barrier dropped a while ago, the hunt for glory and fame is back on as the first adventurers and travellers are making their way back to the veil, reporting a vast and untapped magical land teeming with life and potential.

Natural Resources

Large parts of The Land are still untapped and  unexplored, but if the rest of it is a good indication, the entire planetoid is rich is pretty much every coveted resource.   All types of wood from the forests, grain from the fields, sheep in the rolling hills and metals and stone from the bowels of the earth to name but a few.

History

Starting out as a cold and empty astroid, one of the Tears of Selûne, this tiny little rock drew the blessing of Mystra, The Mother of all Magic. Jealous, although she would never admit to it if tortured, of her sister, The Goddess Selûne, after which the moon the astroid circled was named, she saw the Realmspace of Toril, worshiping and praising her. A harbinger of chaos, through her creation of life onto planets and whole universes. She decided to bring balance to the scales of order and chaos, by introducing her most pure and desired gift of all, Magic.   Taking The frozen sphere out of its orbit and setting it on a direct path of impact with the other Tears and in the process, colliding and swallowing some of its namesakes, the pebble grew into a rock. a large rock. Large enough to be a second moon to the planet Toril . at least geographically, Mystra was now on the same footing as her sister.   As she blessed her new moon, the surface of Corumant became engulfed in magic, creating a barrier around the land and seeping deep within the hart of the planetary body.   Over the next couple of thousand years, unbeknownst to Mysta, the tears her chosen asteroid collided with where already blessed by Selûne and touched by Life. As chaos and order collided, the creation of the elements on Corumant quickly followed. rock and obsidian, drenched in life, became mouldable and porous, creating earth. sharp and dangerous ice shards, some miles in width and height, gathered from centuries and centuries of orbit through the vast emptiness of Realmspace , slowly begun to erode due to its proximity to this much magic, losing its edges, becoming soft and flowing, always taking the easiest route and eroding what was in its way, creating water. As water began to erode the earth around it, dissolving it in some cases due to the vastness and strength of the flowing water, the pores in the earth released Air, An unpredictable, fickle and chaotic element. Finally, the vast amounts of magic and Air, crashed into each other, both dominant and unbending in their own way, and created the most dangerous, but necessary element of them all, Fire. Orderly and completely impartial in its destruction and chaotic and dangerous even in creation.   As with every other planetoid that sprouted elements, this drew the eye of The Elementals . Quickly colonizing and inhabiting the new moon, the everlasting war between them had found a new stage.   Although rare, but still numerous in the vastness of outer space, the residual Life essence from the original blessing of the Tears by Selûne was still enough to affect the weaker elementals and sparked the first seeds of organic life.     Alerted by her worshipers and drawn to the land by the seeds of her blessing, Selûne visited the moon and found the land in turmoil, with organic life clinging to the brink of extinction. Over a number of centuries, she brought peace to the land, taming the elements and in doing so, banishing most of the elementals back to there realms and leaving the few remaining ones dormant. She then spend her devotion and care to nourishing and later balancing and grouping Life on the planet.     Although her Life essence had now been given shape and being, it was still mere life. but as she left the land to fend for itself again, this would soon change. Magic was not done with it yet as some of the blessing of Mystra was still untapped. The infection of ordered and nourished life would bring with it the most dangerous and promising challenge to the planetoid yet....Consciousness.   The Age of Growth had come. an almost infinite amount of fauna and flora would evolve and expand, unhindered, over the face of the planet. soon the earth, winds and water would be teeming with life. At the pinnacle of this evolution would be The Bimathid, a humanoid race with a consciousness so strong it would draw other Gods' attention. As The Bimathid where blessed by the gods, the first 4 new races would see there early prominence as a sign of superiority, thus creating The First Races, later naming themselves as Elves, blessed by Corellon, Dwarves, Blessed by Moradin, Humans, Blessed by Lathander and Orcs, Blessed by Gruumsh.   These four would explore the land of Corumant and later find purchase and build settlements on The True Isles where there houses still rule and fight for dominion.

Tourism

Being a fairly newly inhabited planetoid, space travel is pretty much non-existent.    Tourism across The Land is also fairly limited between the different regions of the moon, although The True Isles often receive visitors from far away lands to the north, south or east, as it is mainly seen as the best holiday destination of Corumant.
