Feats
Beyond the Barbed Wire makes use of the d20 Modern set of feats with a few adjustments and modifications here and there to bring the feats in line with the themed setting of World War Two. The biggest changes that you will notice are how automatic fire weapons function with the introduction of the new Controlled Burst Fire feat that takes over from the old Burst Fire feat; this has also lead to the modification of the Strafe feat.
Also the Weapon Proficiency feats have been slightly changed, instead weapons are grouped together into families that cover weapons of the same function or style of use. E.g.: the Weapon Proficiency (pistol) feat groups all pistols under it, although some pistols may function slightly differently when compared to others the general principles of pistol use apply to all pistols.
The same is also done with melee weapons; the weapons are grouped together by the method and the art of use. For example a Rapier and Katana are both swords but each is used in a different fashion – The Rapier is used with a Fencing fighting style of accurately aimed thrusts, while the Katana is used with a Kendo fighting style of powerful slashing blows.
Characters can then specialise with a particular weapon, where by the character gains an intimate understanding of how the weapon functions, how it is weighted, and other such matters to the point where use of the weapon becomes second nature.
