Tala, God of Bearkin and Lost Souls

(tall • a)
Tala's constellation is a symbol of hope and guidance. When visible in the night sky, it is seen as a sign that Tala's watchful gaze is upon you, ready to guide the lost to safety or embolden those who must stand against injustice. The constellation appears as a great bear with antler-like horns that part the sky like branches of an ancient tree.   Stories of Tala's guidance are shared by travelers and wanderers who find their way home after being lost. Shepherds speak of seeing a great bear with horns leading their lost flocks back. Warriors and guardians recount the constellation appearing at crucial moments, a sign that their cause is just and that they are not alone.

Origin

Long ago, the Gods Hacina and Darasif had a destructive argument that left a forest and village in ruins. Among the devastation, hundreds of lost mortals gathered, homeless and uncertain. Then, from the forest, bears emerged—not to attack, but to guide the people through the wreckage and dangers. Led by these protectors, the mortals found a safe, open field where they could rebuild.   From this act of guidance, Tala was born—a young God moved by the plight of the lost and inspired by the protectiveness of the bears. Since then, Tala has dedicated themselves to shielding the lost and the weak from the power of the strong, whether divine or mortal.

Followers and Church

Typical Alignment: Lawful Good

Followers: Devoted followers of Tala seek out those who are lost and assist them in finding their way, even if it isn’t what they’re expecting. Many of Tala's followers though are the lost who are still trying to find their way.

Church: Churchs of Tala are often protected by bears and are a refuge for the lost and sick who have lost their way. They more often act as orphanages.

Champions

Champions of Tala are often lost who were guided to salvation by Tala and now work to guide others as well. They’re experts in the constellations, and it’s said that using them, they can find their way anywhere.

Tenants

Guide the Lost: We cannot abandon someone because they’re lost; if someone needs guidance, it is our job to be there for them.

Forgive: We all find ourselves lost at times, and as such, don’t be too quick to judge someone who has made a mistake.

Relationships

  • Hacina and Darasif: Despite the circumstances of their birth, Tala is close to her original progenitors, understanding they didn’t mean to cause the damage they did. In all things, she turns to them first for guidance.
  • Yanna and Yasra: Although at times she clashes with either of them, she is (relative to the Divine) friends with both.
  • Maluzu: She is curious about the God of Secrets and likes to wander near his realms when the night sky is filled with the beauty of the stars.
