Jarl
A Jarl is the sovereign ruler of an independent settlement in The Wildlands, and the highest rank of authority among the Iskjin people. Though a Jarl's word carries absolute weight within their domain, the fiercely independent nature of the Iskjin ensures that rulers rarely lean too heavy toward tyranny. A Jarl who neglects the goodwill of their people risks rebellion, exile, or assassination. As such, most Jarls rule with a mix of authority, pragmatism, and diplomacy, balancing their own ambition against the stubborn strength of their people.
