Introduction
Ruins of the Shattered
Read once the party enters into the Domain of Arvura:
Within one of the Shattered hideouts, Karnell has stumbled upon the remains of his followers as the Candescent have attempted an attack. At most, the Shattered drove out the Candescent and began blaming the other on how things happened, causing violence to breakout again. Only a small handful fled in hopes of not getting involved in a wasteful fight.
Through the great misty veil, it guides you to the face of a wall with a battered door. Stepping through, you quickly find that you’re in the ruins of a fortress, a castle of some sorts. However, you were not the only ones here. Bodies lie scattered around the floors. You can definitely infer some kind of fight broke out based on their attire. One side has pieces of armor and fractured masks while others are cleaner with their robes (if you ignore the stains of bloodshed) and have more whole masks. A wind blows through the hollow fortress, kicking up the dust and debris from outside.
The party soon stumbles upon one Candescent survivor. If given healing (up to 21 hit points), she can act as a guide across some of the Arvura region. If not, Karnell will hunt her down.
While heading through the cracked and shambling fortress, you actually find one of the fallen still alive. A female tiefling monk, one whose eyes still dart around and blink. You can see the pain in her eyes with the mask she has adorned. With each breath she takes, you can see her eye wince slightly.
Just beyond the other main doorways, you see a figure with long tattered bits of cloth that hang off his wrists and robes that blow against the wind. You can hear the frustration grate against his lungs with each breath he takes. This figure looms over the remains of a few fallen and you can see his fist shake from being balled up so tightly, “You have failed me,” he whispers to himself then looks over to the side, seeing footprints that head down the road, “But perhaps not all is lost…?”
Karnell has just arrived and is infuriated with what has happened. He seeks to know where his apprentices have gone. Should the party inquire, he believes looking into the roadways is the best start.
Side Quest: Find the Shattered Apprentices. Karnell requests the party to find his apprentices and be rewarded with 10 gp each for it.
The Bloodtide Pact

Arvura’s Beacon
Read when approaching the beacon:
Read on lighting the beacon:
(0.00) With the beacon becoming active, its luminance shines even brighter over the blighted region! There is a strong gust of wind that pushes the fog back, repelling it so that the beacon’s area remains in a clear space. The grand light itself rises to the air and nearby spirits become pulled or are drawn to the calm orb above.
(0.35) There is one complication as Triste appears. The spirits of the cael and vician struggle to retaliate but she stops them in place, “For divines from Haven and Inferna who give mortals purpose, you have been blinded to your own! Now, I restore you to your rightful form. Become whole again!”
The two then shed their corrupted forms, showing radiant light and the other vicious fires.
(1.22) “Now, divines, your purpose is clear once again. Go and find the lost, the departed. Bring them to the beacons so they may be saved from these despoilers!”
Hesitating at first, the cael and vician spirits then dash for the open area of Arvura. In their absence, all things fall into a blissful silence to the sounds of the beacon’s thrumming.
Returning from the Beacon
In hopes of stopping the party further, the Dark Powers try to thwart the party with a horde of wretches. The issue is that multiple beacons are lit…
There are whispers along the way back. The mists slowly begin to coalesce around you as they become louder. They are difficult to hear at first and soon you can hear varying phrases, “They’ve gone too far,” “We will not lose our play things,” “The light is too bright” and they all culminate into one massive shout, “SOMETHING MUST BE DONE!”
The mists burst and all falls quiet at first. In the far distance. You can see a whole horde of wretches coming forward. Their feral rage can be heard getting closer. But their demeanors quickly soften when they look behind you. They then simply walk right past you. Looking back, their attention is to the only source of light in the distance: the Arvuran beacon.
