The Bridgefort
Alterations
The small fort has grown into a small castle, with a curtain wall and three major towers surrounding the old fortress. A gatehouse protects the main approach up the hill and many smaller buildings have been constructed inside the wall.
The bridge itself has been remade out of stone and a small village has sprung up on one side of it. The village of Elmwood is home to around 100 inhabitants and sits underneath the Bridgefort's hill. A small guardhouse has been constructed beside the bridge.

History
The Bridgefort was built on a hill overlooking the River Avinne's best crossing in the area. A large wooden bridge had been constructed here some years prior to the fort and the main road runs right across the bridge and right underneath the castle. At first, it was a small toll fort controlled by a captain appointed by House Tregaerion but it soon became evident the river crossing was too important for such a small complement of soldiers, so the fort and the surrounding lands were gifted to a landless knight serving the Tregaerions, Sir Lyonel of Elmwood, in 4677. Ever since it has served as the seat of house Elmwood.
The Elmwoods have stayed loyal to the Tregaerions ever since the land has been gifted to them. They have steadily grown richer through river tolls but have never been overly ambitious and their lands are still relatively small. They bought the rank of Lord sometime in 4791 and have remained minor lords ever since. Lady Esther, the current head of the house, is regarded as a wise and benign ruler. She is quite old and rumors of her grandson, Nicholas, taking over as lord, have begun spreading. Nicholas, however, has not been seen in two months.
