Personal history
Esther was the firstborn daughter of her parents, the Lord and Lady Elmwood. She was an intelligent but slightly unruly and very energetic child, always dragging her six younger sisters into trouble. After it became clear the Lord would not receive a male heir, he began instructing her in rulership and everything that comes with it.
She quickly took to it and was an apt replacement for her father after he passed away. Always a model noble, she married the younger brother of another local lord and ruled in peace, collecting tolls at the Bridgefort, growing her family's wealth, and protecting the smallfolk. She was always well-loved by the populace
Her somewhat erratic nature was seldom revealed, sometimes she would personally lead her men after a gang of bandits, or run off for a few days with only her horse and dog for company, but these events were few and far between. However, when King Medred Danothes died, she became one of Lord Godwulf Tarragona's staunchest supporters and fought in one of the only skirmishes of the brief conflict. She was among the loudest advocates for open war in Godwulf's councils and the elderly lady became known as somewhat of a warmonger among the nobility.
After Godwulf's and his son's death, she retreated back to the Bridgefort and quietly went back to collecting her tolls. She has become somewhat of a recluse, but still ventures into the village from time to time, sometimes going to the market or into the woods to collect herbs. The lady is known as somewhat senile now and rumors about her grandson, Nicholas, becoming lord, have begun to circulate. Apparently, her senility has taken a turn for the worse since her grandson's disappearance two months ago.
