Golden Medlar Valley
Golden Medlar Valley is a river valley within the Gloynbyw Coalfields, primarily inhabited and operated by the Golden Medlar sect. This is an old Myacoris religious cult that prioritizes large families, resourcefulness, and collective living and its doctrine was founded to survive in extreme or inhospitable areas. It is an old religion similar to the practices of Kubeleya, and thus practices like cannibalism and decimation are not unheard of, though it has been modernized in areas close to civilization.
What are your non-earth-like geographical features in your setting?
- Two rivers run through this valley, the Paris river and Eris river. The Paris river is mostly aboveground but has a lot of pollution and toxins to get around, and sometimes just releases noxious air. Eris is an underground river and what they have to use for reliable drinking water. Sometimes in certain spots Eris is above the ground and Flesh Oil sometimes washes up there.
- The sources are on the hill/mountaintop, covered in thick, dense foliage of trees from which they derive food, though not as easily replenished or harvested as Gall Oaks and Apples. They mostly grow medlars (and make a variety of foods and preserves from them), alongside root vegetables and berries. These trees are rather hazardous to harvest.
- Underground fire from the next valley, which is abandoned(?) seems to be slowly spreading their way
What’s the general “lay of the land” of your active worldbuilding area?
- There are four or five large families who run farms and mostly self-governing communities, each with their own religious presence, but a larger town at the head of the valley where large events and administrative/executive decisions are made, some what like a Great Hall
- Each community has their own specialties, with a town square, orphanages and community centres, there is a lot of toxic garbage and industrial waste around the area due to the past mining of coal and rock oil, alongside heavy metal pollution. It looks utterly uninhabitable to outsiders, and the novelty of the Golden Medlars is that they seem to thrive even in the worst conditions
- There are a lot of trees but they are not large like those inhabited by Locii and Vespula, rather they do not grow very tall and their fruits seem to have unique properties due to pollution, and can be used as its own elemental facet of Citron. and there are a lot of secret paths between the trees which can lead to different places
And what is the climate or environment like, in your active worldbuilding area?
- It is very rainy and damp, but also receives a lot of wind errosion
- Consists of both Phelgmatic Bogland and Choleric Badland, with heavy industry areas that are inhospitable combined with dense, sinking boglands in the misty valley.
- Though it doesn't have extreme seasons, it does rain a lot and the weather is close in nature to the nearby Eskern climates of Sanguine Bromeliade and Melancholic Heathland in terms of high humidity and more barren elevation
Next, What is the ecosystem & habitat like in your active worldbuilding area?
- Irongrass or Ironsedge, which is a lichenous? grass that absorbs trace metals in contaminated soil and reproduces both by spores and sexual reproduction, it makes a rattling or rustling sound and is said to be related to Koidios, child of Ioannes and the Demiurge, who is an Earthbound deity associated with Heavy Metal, known as the "red-horned hunter of the wilderness".
- Nodwillows, also known as Nod's Willows, are associated with Nod, another Earthbound deity who rules over water and kingship, often portrayed as an older brother or uncle of Koidios. They are a silvery, whiteish weeping willow that can cause you to feel sleepy or even go mad if they touch you too much. The Kubeleya seem to like it, though, so they're often considered invasive.
- Ghostcrane or ghostcrane grass, is a grass which evolved from a mutation in which although the grass is softer, it is silvery white and have little chlorophyll, thus it has little nutritional value despite growing anywhere.
- Plants such as sundews, woad, cottongrass, and heather also grow here
- Birch, oak, rowan, and willow are the main trees, along with medlars
- Silvery-grey salamanders (ghostcranes) that reflect the fog and are often invisible, as well as small, they are easier to see in the dark and are thought to be coriniaid. however, they are edible unlike a lot of larger game, one out of every 1000~ of these grows to a much larger size and are known a type of dragon as well as an omen.
Finally, what natural resources are found in your active worldbuilding area?
- Actual organic food (ghostcranes)
- Mining - Heavy Metal, Brimstone, Flint, and even Brine and Citron
- Extremely element-rich
