Choleric Badland
Choleric Badland is a type of terrain on the Island of Woad, characterized by land which is damaged by radiation and heavy industry. It is thought to be a manifestation of Mihr and Koidios, who are Choleric deities. It is often home to capsules of unique life that adapt to the spoil piles and wind and heat-swept uplands where the flora and fauna is hardy and scrublike. Sometimes it involves a subterranean fire.
Principles of the Choleric Badlands Terrain
- Scorched Earth Law, which dictates that adaptation during calcification (burning) happens much faster than average due to its ability to 'burn away' impurities and defects. This also means the air is unnaturally dry in order to drain the surroundings of any humidity that could cause overgrowth
- Mihr's Gaze, which dictates that the more ultraviolet light reaching the animals, the less overall time in sunlight they need- thus plants which would require full sun seem to grow fine so long as the ultraviolet light gets to them
- Law of Lovers' Quarrel, which dictates that the irradiated soil holds stronger memories and sentience than non-tainted soil, in particular, sucking nutrients of scrambling genes of the plants which take root there and causing sudden catastrphoes and adaptations in order to maintain a "balance", which is networked by the surrounding trees.
- The Choleric Badlands encapsulates these three laws, assigning them to the domain of Mihr and Koidios, dictating that adaptation and resilience is exponentially increased when weaknesses are purged from the organisms.
Manifestation
The wind is hot and relentless, carrying with it fragments of mineral such as aesbestos, quartz, sodium, and other rocks. It creates jagged, angular landscapes, the more exposed the more corroded.
The soil carries a high volume of oxidized metals, particularly iron, and so it often looks the color of deep rust. Iron seems to grow here like plants do, and the rust is deadly to many creatures. There are lots of reds, yellows, and bone white.
There are many spoil heaps that were once untouched due to the toxicity they possessed to most life, they often spread with the wind and new formations will sometimes be found overnight after a storm.
The bleeding landscape - though it is only found in limited areas, there are fields formed of living acidiophiles. Thus sometimes the soil and land seems to open up and "bleed" streams of this bacteria. It is a favourite training spot for Heavy Metal and Citron users due to the prominence of both toxic metals and acids.
Localization
Choleric Badlands is detected mainly in former areas of heavy industry, particularly mining. The climates are usually heavily acidic, dry, and scorched by chemical pollution.
