**Captain’s Log – SS *Good Times II***
**Midgard & Miracle – 3–24 September 4501**
**3 September**
Closed up the moon facility and left D.O.T. in command. It’s strange trusting an android with a small fleet of unfinished ships and a ruined planet, but stranger things have happened. Probably. Jumped for Miracle with a growing sense of purpose—and a shrinking credit balance.
**10 September – Miracle Starport**
Docked and dove straight into the chaos of recruitment. Lucid, Castor, and I scoured the engineering pubs and docking guilds while Beñat secured a spare vac suit for the ever-paranoid Dr. Thorne. Lucid pushed for “punks with spirit.” Castor just wanted “muscle.” We settled on five out-of-work engineers—blue-collar, no-nonsense types who know a wrench from a welder.
Back aboard, Alana braced for spreadsheet hell. Castor offered to help.
*“I’ve balanced the books of capital ships,”* he insisted.
Alana’s glare could freeze hydrogen. *“Do. Not. Touch. My. Spreadsheets.”*
I intervened—diplomacy is still part of the job—and brokered an uneasy truce.
**12 September – Jumpspace**
Gathered the new crew in the mess. Tried my best to inspire.
*“I’m not here to tell you how to turn a bolt. I’m here to coordinate, delegate, and make sure we all get home rich. If this works, you’ll be the first crew of Known Space’s first freely associated fleet.”*
A couple looked inspired. The rest just looked like they wanted a paycheck. Note to self: Let Lucid handle the motivational speeches next time. She’s better with… enthusiastic lying.
**17 September – Midgard Moonbase**
Crammed back into the *Good Times* with five extra bodies. Felt like shipping sardines in a can of ambition. D.O.T. greeted us at the moonbase and immediately began coordinating automated systems. Henrik, Castor’s contact, delivered the timeline: four days to assemble the J-Drive, one more to install it. He also quietly warned me we’re stretched thin. We need more hands—and about 30 tons of material—to get the rest of the fleet spaceworthy.
As for the *Harrier DuBois*… 12 million credits to restore functionality. Another 8 to make her pretty. We settled for “functional.” Some dreams have to wait.
**24 September – Midgard Moonbase**
We did it. After days of scraping, scrounging, and sweating in low-G, the *Harrier* is fully operational. Not pretty—but she’ll fly. And the *Legate*-class ship now has a jump drive installed and a future ahead of it.
New monthly expenses are kicking in: 20,000 Cr for wages and life support, plus Henrik’s cut. It’s a lot.
We’re not just salvagers anymore. We’re builders. Fleet-makers.
Now all we need is a few more miracles.

**SS *Good Times II***
*“Slowly, surely, building a future from scrap.”*
**[Addendum: Told Lucid she’s now officially in charge of morale. She immediately started designing “Fleet Punk” patches. Gods help us.]**
