Captain's Log - SS Good Times II
Mission: Extraction of Valenti Privalov
Previous Context: After delivering salvaged military hardware to Byzantion and reconnecting with Genevieve, we agreed to extract her journalist friend Valenti from Khagan—a corporate-controlled hellhole where truth goes to die. Terms: 100k credits, no fuel costs, and a chance to spite some oligarchs.
26 May 4501 - Khagan Surface
Erdenet Starport
Gen’s contacts got us onto a non-aligned private courier ship with minimal scrutiny—rules of engagement: light gear only, no fireworks. "Try not to start a revolution," Gen said. Too late—the revolution’s already here, and it stinks like corporate fertilizer. The tracker Gen provided—a polished obsidian fob—vibrated like an angry hornet the moment we hit dirt. Followed its Morse-like pulses through:
Erdenet’s neon-slathered docks (Tech Level 8)
Agricultural Zones
Steppes (Tech Level 4)
The Arush greeted us with wary hospitality. Their rejection of modern tech isn’t spite—it’s stubborn self-reliance. They pointed us toward mountain paths even satellites don’t map. “The land provides,” one said, handing us dried mutton and a warning: “The corps plant ears in the soil.”
We hiked 12 hours in total to a yurt that smelled of hearth-smoked wool and bitterroot tea. Lucid passed out mid-complaint about the “back-to-nature vibes.”
[27 May 4501 - Extraction Phase]
Plan:
-Lucid: Forge IDs (failed—Hawk Agency’s need to be in person to be spoofed)
-Beñat & Aidan: Sewer recon (successful, if you ignore the aromatic collateral damage)
-Me & Lucid: Walked normally back into the city (flashed Guild credentials and bad attitudes at checkpoints)
Valenti emerged from the sludge looking like a sewage sasquatch. Beñat’s armour will need decon. Aidan’s dignity may never recover.
Extraction Highlights:
-0.5km sprint through spaceport service corridors (avoiding Hawk patrols)
-Valenti’s first shower in weeks (water recyclers filed a formal protest)
-Courier ship captain’s face when we boarded (“You smell like war crimes.”)
Current Status:
-Valenti secured (scrubbed raw and swearing vengeance)
-Crew decontaminating (Lucid’s air fresheners losing the battle)
-Hawk Agency none the wiser (probably)
Lessons Learned:
-Neo-Luddites make great tour guides
-Sewers are nature’s reminder to stay in space
-Never trust a job that starts with “It’s just a simple extraction”
“Now offering luxury sewage tours (not really)” — Captain Peter Avignon
