mossmantle exists as a charming little patch of green in the middle of a lot of war-ruined land
it would normally have taken days to travel here from patrahk'n but hellebore used a forest-walk spell so it was more like a scant hour of travel
medya usually gets sick from teleporting but this was a much less distressing way to travel – the fliers in the group were a little unsettled but came through just fine
neat trick!
i wonder if medya could learn how to do that
it got awkward when we set about finding a place to stay
hellebore had a good recommendation right away but as she told us about it she mentioned the proprietor's "cross-chalice" "half-orc" wife
one doesn't just casually mention that somebody else used to be a different sex without their permission!
and one doesn't refer to another's ancestry as being simply half of anything!
so she's accustomed to using some embarrassingly old-fashioned and problematic language
normally i would speak up about that sort of thing but i didn't have the opportunity as right afterward gem interrupted to gush about the place
it turns out that she'd been to the "fat sheaf" at some point while on assignment and of course she wouldn't say more about that
the place is less of an inn and more a set of comfortable bungalows with a large open-air kitchen and the proprietors are the kindest folk and they make amazing walnut cakes with cardamom frosting
"brom kaldiiv" was enthusiastic to show us his kitchen which is well-stocked with all manner of magical tools – knives and oven and mortar and pestle were all subtly enchanted
it seems there's an artificer who comes through every couple weeks and watches the kitchen for a while and then comes up with a new piece of helpful equipment
perhaps we'll get to meet him!
. . .
another interruption – will write more later
