Compendium il' Arcanum 10

by Nadi Marquestor

The time to ride is upon us and we head East! From my readings I remember mention of a good road, leading to a bridge which most folks avoid. However the direct route has us exert ourselves through an arduous climb. After the bridge the road will come to a fork, one path leading to Kordhold, or East to Thorn leading into the woods, ultimately we could just sprint into the hills, but the riders in the past went through Thorn. Sioban explains the Scar of Spearfall will be a landmark along our path, before it only the domesticated wildlife, however afterwards is another story. Before we reach the end of the wardlands may have more fearsome predators, if we head into the woods owlbears and bears are likely at our throats, whereas the mountains promise large predator birds and cats... I do not want to be gutted by another cat. While Hale remembers a tale, about the Alchemy Woods, a land those of House Bordain, that are filled with useful reagents. She tells of the Scar and how residual magic lasts there, and the Summer fields which are in tune with the season, Cregor bridge is haunted, standing stones in the outer wardlands that Orcs used as a site of worship, and in the deep woods beyond the wardland the Witch of the Wood awaits us.

In the hours before dawn we head towards the town square to ready our banner and head out. As the sun crests the horizon we kick our mounts into gear to head to the dwarven district. This monstrosity has not been used in some time and runs wild, straight into the crowds, oh no... After some work on healing and talking down the crowds, I only crushed one poor soul and we move along our way. The Dwarves shower us with coin as Haya encourages them to toss coins and I was able to grab so many! 4g 34s. We head into the Entertainment district, and Balmyr warns us Lady Wasp has sprung an attack on us! I charge my destructive beetle forward, and an Auroch tries to slam into my mount, but skids by in its haste. Balmyr is quicker on his feet sending arrows into the alpha. Sioban just stops the other beast in its track, as if she spent her life training such beasts. Hale and Haya make their way through the crowd, and I follow leaving Balmyr and Sioban to take care of the last beast. As we leave the gate, I glimpse the second beast lay down the first.

We emerge through the gate and sure enough The Knights of the Pit Viper are at the ready, and Haya graces them with the Auroch. Hale whispers something to Haya pointing into the crowd. As we go to break into a gallop, Sugar plants a hoof poorly stumbling out of the gate. We take a moment to tend to our mount, but it seems Dig Dig is mostly fine, I think. Sioban calls out about some ruins she has found an inscription of blessing of the light, seems the structure is intended to summon aid of those that would follow the faith.

We follow the road until we reach the breeding the grounds of the mage bred horses, the stockades are damaged, and the house members are running to and fro attempting to coral these creatures, however Balmyr has us push on, we have a mission to attend to. He spots some Doom Sayers up ahead preparing to sacrifice a mage bred horse, that is just disgusting. It seems there is no time like to present to attempt some new methods I have been studying.

There are 4 of these bottom feeders, and one more that lurks in the shadows, while we look to disrupt, there is much chaos, and they quickly get the upper hand. I attempt to keep them in place, they seem to be quite upset by this
