[Return to the Ruins 1 Quest Log]

by The Great Prospero

[Notes:]

  • Prospero returns to the ruins to study the murals and frescos. He's soon joined by Alessa and her sister, and the group begins a more thorough examination of the ruins.

  • Ultimately deciding to take the path that wouldn't lead to immediate known danger, the party clears strewn rubble and enters a room with a strange mechanism and four stone statues, three knightly and one King. Prospero restores the lettering carved into the wall panels with a casting of Mending, and reads it aloud with Comprehend Languages; Following the directions, he pushes the buttons that would lead to opening a secret path behind the King. **500 exp**

  • The party enters a crypt, detailing the struggles of a potentially benevolent Runelord of Sloth at the time of the Starfall. Runelord Aerion created a portal that would send his Thassilonian people to a safe, habitable planet to weather through the apocalypse; The Lashunta homeworld of Castrovel. Prospero opens the Runelord's casket, and after restoring his corpse and taking the corpse's locket into his grasp, accidentally awakens a Haunt.

  • Cursed with wretched visions of Tar-Baphon rising during the destruction of Starfall, Prospero was left blind and deaf. This is notable as Tar-Baphon hadn't even been born yet at the time of the Starfall, and likely meant to be symbolic over literal.

  • Alessa grabbed Prospero's hand, and, with a well-timed Teleportation spell, got them out of the Haunt before they could be cursed further-- And yet not empty-handed, as Prospero had not yet released the Runelord's Locket.

  • > **Runelord Aerion's Locket (Artifact, Immense Conjuration)**
    > - A seven-pointed Thassilonian Sin Magic star, likely a holy symbol to the Rune Goddess, Lissana.
    > - Effect(s): Identify registers the Locket as a Periapt of Wound Closure, and cursed in some nature by the Whispering Tyrant. How the Whispering Tyrant reached the Locket, and what the curse entails is unknown even with a [42 Spellcraft] result. Note to self: Try Identify Dweomer and Legend Lore at earliest convenience.
