Xenobiologist
A xenobiologist is a biologist that studies organisms from various planets. Its meaning can change slightly depending on the region, but typically, a xenobiologist has no speciality, studying all lifeforms from a vast array of celestial objects.
Most xenobiologists are gifted zoomancers. Their expertise in biology as a whole makes them incredibly valuable, and many zoological collections with creatures from several planets will hire xenobiologists to inform them about the animals in their collections. The A to Zoo has over ten thousand xenobiologists under the organisation, most working behind the scenes but some also working as zookeepers.
Xenobiology is a highly speculative field of biology, studying how lifeforms survive on planets with such unique environments. Many xenobiologists specialise in studying convergent evolution, of which there is an absurd amount in the Yonderverse. On many planets you'll find species of the exact same genus, despite having evolved completely independently from one another.
Some xenobiologists specialise in studying how organisms cope in the depths of space. It is a common misconception that space is void of life, but it has some of the richest ecosystems.
I love my job so freaking much. I get to hang out with such weird creatures. Have you seen mag mites? These things have magic in their DNA. In fact it isn't even DNA anymore, we call it μRNA, magiribonucleic acid. They also eat iron, and have their own magnetic field. And there are animals that are sooooo much weirder than this! What an incredible world.
