The Arena

Sat below the floating city, the arena is one of the many broken buildings of Old Galdasar. The arena has been abandoned ever since the people of Old Galdasar moved out into the new city. It is seldom explored, but when people do they don't come back.

Purpose / Function

The Arena originally existed as a means of entertainment. In Ancient Sarra, animal fights were common and extremely popular. Soldiers and people would step up to fight battles between themselves and vicious creatures of the deserts. Spectators would be sat on rows of seats surrounding the arena, where they can watch the fights and eat food. The arena could fit around 500 spectators, however for fights with more recognised soldiers more people were crammed in, more for money than for the people to witness the epic battles.

Alterations

The Arena received frequent alterations, based on the type of creature the soldier would be fighting. If it was a water based creature, then flooding pipes would fill the entire basin with water, and some obstacles such as boulders and kelp to help the soldier in some ways. Several artworks of the arena with different alterations exist on the outside of the building, detailing epic battles between creatures and people.

Architecture

The walls in the Arena were built from a sturdy sandstone, using metal rods to hold the place together. Intricate lattices of metal rods were also used in the rim of the basin, so any creature ramming into the sides wouldn't deal much damage to the quality of the Arena.
The walls are engraved in pictures of battles that have taken place in the Arena, such as some battles between mighty argansers and dravaterans.

Tourism

Tourism was the only funding that The Arena recieved. As it was a form of entertainment, flocks of people came to The Arena to watch the latest battles, which were advertisements posted on billboards around the old city. It unrivalled in popularity, since animal fighting was all the rage back in the days that the city had people.

Resident Terror

Few people, who explore Old Galdasar, even go near The Arena. Those who do are not seen again, and everyone knows why. It is believed that a giant creature, that was the last battle taking place in The Arena, still resides there. The giant purple monster can be heard roaring, its thunderous footsteps can be heard from outside The Arena, as it paces back and forth, waiting for its next meal.
