Spongeworm
Spongeworms are small parasitic annelids native to the coral reefs of Hothiri. They dig through sponges in giant colonies, gnawing through material as hard as rock with their rotating teeth. The entire foot long body of a spongeworm is hollow, filled with rows of teeth that they regurgitate when burrowing.
These animals are a species of sandworm. They are one of few marine sandworms, and have a benthic cousin found in the abyssal regions of Hothiri.
Spongeworms are most common around the Serene Shores. Mantisite veins underneath this coral reef has corrupted and mutated many spongeworms, morphing them into horrid rainbow variants with double the teeth and a nasty temperament.
Spongeworms produce eggs so tiny they are a form of plankton. These worms are asexual, producing both male and female gametes and release eggs throughout their lifetime. They drift through the ocean, eaten by filter feeders.
They were discovered forty years ago as oanie scientists ventured farther to uncover more of their newly claimed planet.
