Planetary Communication Lines

The peak form of communication before resorting to Utopia, Planetary Communication Lines allow for instant interaction with people from other planets.

The lines themselves came in the form of massive communication towers, standing twenty metres tall. The towers had a large marble spheres on top, and when infused with loquimagic, two communication lines could become "linked", which meant for instant communication that could be decoded, either in text or audio form.

History

The first communication lines were established in the Selvos Cluster thirty thousand years ago, when the Clusterfarers first formed. The Clusterfarers were people from the different planets of this solar system determined to unite each and every planet in the Cluster by forming these communication lines.

The lines were first used only for emergencies; if a planet was running low on a certain resource, they could send out a distress signal with a message attached, and other planets would send care packages to help. Communication lines were established between every planet, with over ten thousand communication lines from one planet to another.

Once these lines were built for every planet in the Selvos Cluster, the Clusterfarers wandered beyond their system and began aiding other planets. Gradually the people faded out of existence, but these communications kept being used, and only became more popular as time went on.

Utopia

The most revolutionary technology ever made, Utopia is a massive networking system used by quadrillions across the Yonderverse. It is comprised of millions of smaller networking systems, which allow for instantaneous communication between anyone from any distance.

Utopia was first invented ten thousand years ago, and the Planetary Communication Lines were instantly upgraded to use Utopia. The loquimagical spheres were defused, but the lines remained, simply using Utopia to send messages from planet to planet.

Despite both systems having merit, Utopia was more reliable. The previous system sometimes slipped up and was unable to decode messages sent, resulting in planets either not receiving messages at all or them sending the wrong resources. This didn't happen often, but enough for the planets to unanimously agree to upgrade to Utopia as soon as they could.

I like that they needed to upgrade the system for reliability. I find myself imagining an interplanetary diplomatic catastrophe caused by some missing information. XD
