Regnal name

The regnal name, formatted as ad regnum in text (for example ad regnum Corprealius Dark), is a name taken by certain rulers across Yaleakasardia as the name they wish to be officially addressed by during their reign. While it does not happen often, sometimes regnal names differ from the ruler's name given to them at birth. The phrase, "ad regnum" is believed to have come from the Cursed Tongue, and means, "known to the realm as."

Regnal names are usually followed by a Nadrāin numeral denoting the order the ruler's name comes in historically. When a ruler takes the name of a previous ruler for the first time the numeral II is appended to their name, and the numeral I is posthumously appended to their predecessor. While this numeral is used throughout their reign and after in documentation, some rulers, notably every ruler of House Dark, is given a historical name recognizing their accomplishments or traits shown during their reign.

While regnal names were common throughout Yaleakasardian history, they became less popular during The Calm and have almost entirely fallen out of use during The Storm, only remaining in use in the Gold Coast.
