Player Primer
Welcome to the land beyond the veil, isolated for untold millennia, Valoris has been a mysterious land known only through wild legend; a land where the greatest of heroes would rise again and again to defend the realms; a land where titans stride the countryside granting power to the faithful and a land torn apart by war. Recent events have lead to a hole in the veil, allowing travelers to make their way to the realm for a new life, glory, and secrets.
This will be the Setting for Westmarches: Valoris. This primer will get you everything you need to play in this year's Westmarches
What's a Westmarches?
Westmarches is an open-table RPG format with multiple dms running a single continuous storyline. This westmarches utilizes Dungeons & Dragons 5e. Each week there will be missions posted from one or more DM's for anyone to sign up for and go on. The missions will act like a one-shot or an isolated instance of play. Despite the event being isolated, it still impacts the everchanging story of Valoris. New weeks start on Mondays. To begin, all you need to do is build a character. Specifications and instructions for building a 5e WM legal character can be found here Character Creation. Below will be more information on player guidelines related to character leveling, evilness, patrons, npcs, and more. First off, to make things simple for everyone, we're implementing the milestone system, rather than our usual xp system. This is the projected schedule for leveling up:Character Level | Game Week | School Week |

Spring 2024 Finals Week |
Each week you will receive two downtimes which can be spent in a variety of ways, from embarking on missions, earning gold, crafting potions, and more. Specifics on downtimes can be found here
Downtime.
For veteran players, there are two unique systems to WM:V. As you explore Valoris, you will acquire new and unique ingredients to utilize in the Alchemy system. As a downtime (or for gold) you can craft potions with these scavenged ingredients. In addition, as a mission award or as a downtime, you can earn Renown, which is a new resource that can be spent with the various factions of Veil's End. specifics on alchemy and factions can be found here Alchemy, Factions.
Finally, text RP will be available on the discord. Text RP guidelines can be found here Mission and RP Etiquette. Text RP can be a great way to explore your home base and speak with NPC's and players alike. Here you can form deeper connections between characters, trade equipment and magic items and maybe learn some more information about the world.
Veil's End
Arriving in the collossal circular train station, the city of Veils End is a sight to behold. Not only is it the connecting point between the Faerun and Valoris, but the connecting point between all surrounding regions. Veils End was the location of a final battle of a great war 3 decades ago, and has since become a sanctuary for realm walkers and natives alike. With tech from arround the realm, Veils End is one of the most diverse and advanced cities in Valoris. Three groups have already arrived in Veil's End. These factions are the Frontier, the Opal Eye, and the Golden Banner. The factions of Veil's end offer many resources to adventurers seeking knowledge, a new life, and glory. As you explore Valoris you will become more well known and these factions may offer assistance on your endeavors. Not From These Parts
For convenience's sake, Valoris is anchored to the realm of Faerun. You are from Faerun or somewhere within its cosmology. If you do not know Faerun lore, do not worry! Just use it as a generic fantasy setting. Feel free to be from one of the lesser known, or more technologically advanced places in Faerun. Something to remember is that our setting is standardized as steampunk with variations across the continent such as chempunk, arcanapunk, solarpunk, and others. So please try to stay near this tech level. For one reason or another you have come to Valoris through a special realm crossing train that has taken you to the central city of Veils End.Gods and Monsters
Players may be interested in playing a cleric, paladin, warlock or any character with an intrinsic connection to a powerful entity from their home realm. This is completely allowed, however please note that the powerful entity your character is connected to is still within your native realm, and cannot properly cross into Valoris. We do not bar the occurrence of visions, hallucinations or other instances of entities communication to the player. Simply do not have your entity interacting with the realm beyond the scope of your characters abilities. *A note on player NPC's: You can RP summons and familiars in tandem with your character, but please do not write that an npc has traveled with you on the train here. It is our goal that everyone comes here with a blank slate with no bonus anchorage or sway.Villainy
Who doesn't love a good villain? We have plenty of dastardly dudes for you to slug on your adventure, though you may be interested in playing a more evil aligned character. We find that evil characters tend to lead to animosity between characters. While it can be fun to play we ask that your 'evilness' is still cooperative with the town and other players. Leave those malevolent maniacal schemes to us.Pylons and Death
Pylons are a natural phenomenon in locations saturated with hope/willpower though they can degrade naturally from despair. Pylons have the unnatural ability to be a site of resurrection for heroes with enough will to persist after dying against their will. Almost all Pylons were broken by the end of the Firewater Wars leaving only one known one remaining in Veil's Ends that was spared ruin by the sacrifice of the godbeast Haanila. The Pylon in Veils End is a very closely guarded secret and has not been activated since the time of war. When a player character dies, they reappear at the Pylon in Elephant Grove, but at a cost of 500 gold (to assist in maintaining the pylons magics). If they do not have the money, then the character is in debt till they can pay it off. If death occurs during a mission then their body does not respawn at the Pylon till the mission ends. All of your items and equipment go with you when you die.Remove these ads. Join the Worldbuilders Guild
