Character Creation

Now, we are playing a game in a system with rules (though don’t worry if you don’t know any of them!), so there is some standardization involved. Here is the list of Allowed Character Options .

DND Beyond

We use a platform called DNDBeyond. This is an amazing tool for all sorts of DND content, but especially for character creation. Once you have made an account, click here, here, or here (it doesn’t matter!), to be taken to the UCSD RPG Club’s WM3 Campaign. It is critical that you make your character in these spaces, otherwise, you will not have access to the correct content. We have purchased the content we want you to have access to and created a campaign so we can share it with you. This way, you do not have to buy all of the books in order to access everything. Do not edit your character outside of these campaigns. Once you are done making your character, move them out of the campaign so that others have space to make/edit theirs.   Note: if you have used DNDBeyond before, you may have more options than others. Please make sure that you are using content that is on the approved list.   Now, let’s make a new character! Once you open a campaign link, click “Create a Character.” If an error says that this campaign is full, try another one of the campaign links.   Choose “Standard” as your character creation method.   You will open the character builder and get to a screen where you can enter your character name and change your settings. Set them to these:

Sources

OFF: Homebrew Content, Critical Role Content, Rick and Morty Content, Noncore D&D Content, Planescape, Dragonlance.   ON: Magic: The Gathering Content, Eberron Content (if you are playing a Grung or Locathah, you must turn on Noncore D&D Content).   Dice Rolling: ON   Optional Features: ON   Optional Class Features: ON   Customize Your Origin: ON   Advancement type: Milestone   Hit Point type: Fixed   Use Prerequisites: ON   Feats: ON   Multiclass Requirements: ON   Show Level-Scaled Spells: up to you, personally I prefer off   Encumbrance type: Use encumbrance   Ignore Coin Weight: On   Ability score/modifier display: up to you   Character Privacy: Public

Character Creation

Go to the next screen. Pick your race and racial traits. Custom lineage is not allowed. The “customize your origins” options (from Tasha’s) are allowed. All of the races and subraces (except custom lineage) that you see should be allowed, if you are going through the campaign link. If you are using Dhampir Lineages, Hexblood Lineages, or Reborn Lineages, you cannot use the ‘Ancestral Legacy’ trait.   NOTE: With the recent changes that were made in Monsters of the Multiverse (which presents updated versions of many playable races), when you make your character you must use the updated version of the race, not the Legacy version.   Go to the next screen. Pick your class, and put yourself at level 3. Select your class and class features. Multiclassing is allowed if prerequisites are met. Remember that you can use the optional features from Tasha’s. Again, here is the list of allowed races, subraces, classes, and subclasses. If you are a spellcaster, you can also pick your spells at this point. Strixhaven spells are not allowed.   Go to the next screen. Select “Point Buy” in the dropdown menu. Assign your stats.   Go to the next screen. Pick a background. Custom background is allowed. Note that if you are taking a custom background, you should choose a comparable background and choose your starting equipment with it first, then come back and do your custom background. Choose your background attributes. Note: The Strixhaven backgrounds (Prismari, Quandrix, Lorehold, Silverquill, and Witherbloom Student) are not allowed. Also note the ‘background feature’ you get may not come into play, or it may not be possible - for example, we will not allow you to play NPCs that are from your background feature. This is up to the DMs discretion, and overall, do not tend to matter very much and are mostly for flavor.   Go to the next screen. Choose “Equipment.” Select your equipment from these options. With whatever money your default equipment gives you, you can buy other common items from the PHB (by adding inventory in DNDBeyond and subtracting the money). You are allowed to buy a mount at character creation.   Congratulations! You have created your West Marches 3 character. Now, please change your Discord nickname (by right clicking on your name) on our server to follow this format: “Your Name | PC Class/Level | PC Name” EX: “Emily | Glamour Bard 3 | Genevieve”
