Aulven Pyramids

Purpose / Function

The purposes of the pyramids is the primary backbone of the city itself. They serve as housing, storage, manufacturing, entertainment districts and more for the Aulven and Anadi peoples.

These pyramid also serve as stables for the Dinosaur mounts of the police and military, as well as hospitals when necessary.

Alterations

Unlike other pyramids, these pyramids are roughly 100 feet tall and have squat, flat tops for gardening and beekeeping. Aulvi also often go to the tops of the pyramids to socialize in the botanical gardens on comfortable days with appreciable weather. Another difference is the series of irrigation channels in the pyramids. Partially kinetic and partially human/anadi/Aulven engineering, each pyramid has flowing water for both Aulven and irrigation purposes. additional alterations for beehives or tiered gardening increase the height of some pyramids.

Architecture

The Aulven pyramids of Gënlèul are individual marvels, 80 meters per side, and covered from base to tip with gardens, these massive pyramids alone make up a sizable portion of the agricultural needs of the city. These pyramids are flat topped, and roughly 85 feet tall. They have large flat tops that serve as open gardens and/or space for bees to have their hives. There are 5 inner floorsto each pyramid, and each has its primary purposes.

  1. the base floor is for storage or all sorts, food production, and other crafting.
  2. Social areas are primarily on the second floors of pyramids. these can include social spaces for reading, rest, museums, theatre, art and more. Each pyramid has a different social scene, and as a result, no two are quite alike.
  3. Sleeping quarters: due to Aulven sleep patterns, the Aulvi sleep at different times rather than sleeping at either day of night, though they do sleep in 4-8 hour patterns. Each pyramid can comfortably situate roughly 1,500 elves sleeping at a time. With roughly 22,000 pyramids, this allows for 33,000,000 Aulvi to sleep at a time, well over the amount of Aulvi that would need to sleep within the pyramids at any given time, since of the 20.1 million elves in the city at any given time, only roughly 17million require sleep, and would be sleeping in roughly evenly split shifts.
  4. "Shops" and restaurants. These areas are referred to as shopping areas, but are really places for communal goods, with each pyramid housing at least one Aulvi who can create food for the people within in addition to any other "shopping" adjacent needs
  5. Therapy. Aulvi take therapy very seriously, and the 5th floors of each pyramid work on various forms of therapy. Since there are so many needs, however, each pyramid focuses on its own type of therapy. These are the closest things to permanent placements among elves, as Aulven therapists need to be centrally located for those they are assisisting.

In addition to the inner floors, the step pyramids of the elves are covered in gardens that grow over everywhere on the outside not required for steps or bridges. Bridges are located on the second and third floors of each pyramid, and connect to the four pyramids in each cardinal direction. Roads fill the ten meter space between pyramids at the bases of each pyramid, though despite the difference in botanical decorations on each pyramid, and clear square spaces, people have a tendency to get lost in the Aulven pyramid city, and each pyramid has numbered locations to help non-natives with directions.

Moving water in each pyramid is maintained by Aulven hydrokineticists, but crafted primarily by human and anadi craftspeople. The result is constantly flowing water in each pyramid for irrigation and Aulven needs: including consumption, waste removal, and reflection pools.

Aulven pyramids also have a thin spire each that connects the Anadi webway pyramid by pyramid.

Defenses

The pyramids are solid stone and the shape makes them hard to damage, even by erosion over time.

History

The pyramids have grown over the century that the elves have been on the surface very quickly due to Aulven geomancy. Since they can literally be grown from the ground in a matter of weeks, these pyramids are long-term and self-cooling, in addition to the magically cool breezes of the city. The first pyramids were built the very first year that the Aulvi made it to the surface, and more are built every year.

Tourism

The Pyramids are a marvel that many tourists from around the world come to see every year, though few choose to stay in Aulven accomodations due to the cuddling and well-lit sleeping areas, the food, shopping, and socialization are very interesting to the discerning tourist.
