Imara
"I have never belonged on Izi...
Please, let me go with you back to your world. I want to see what humans are like and I want to meet my human father!"

Before Imara was born, there was her mother, the Fire Elf Ascenda and her father, the Iron Human Caio. Caio was part of a research teams that came from Vreathe 200 years ago to explore The Moon Izi. A few weeks into the expedition, he was taken prisoner by Ascenda. Caio was taken by Ascenda across Izi and brought before the Fire God Beirunes for judgement, but was released to go back to Vreathe.

Caio and Ascenda were in a kind of relationship before the two parted ways, but none of the Fire Elves thought that an elf could carry a human child. This was common knowledge on Vreathe and there are countless examples of half-elves, but on Izi, Imara became the first and only one.

Growing up in Grand Jirra, Imara had a sheltered life. Ascenda wouldn't let her leave home to protect her. Imara was unable to cast fire magic and when she was alone, she was constantly attacked by other elves due to her ancestry. Imara is also one of the few half-elves of any world unlucky enough to be born with rounded human shaped ears, which made her look more different and made things worse.

Imara felt like a prisoner, but could never leave the underground she grew up in. She didn't have the full Blessing of Beirunes, so couldn't survive outside the caverns on the surface of the moon for more than a day or two. Whenever Ascenda traveled to the Obsidian Isles to perform her duties as a priestess, Imara stayed home, always guarded by someone, usually her Aunt Lumia.

As Imara got older, she would sneak out. She spent a lot of time wandering the underground forests and often ventured into the Deep Wilds, the deepest caverns of Jirra, where no other fire elf would go. There, she ran into the Gissu or "Deep Elves". They didn't see Imara as some sort of aberration and they accepted her. They taught her how to cast water magic. Imara thought more than once about staying down there in the deep wilds, but she always returned to the upper levels of the caverns.

One day in Grand Jirra, Imara was caught casting water magic. Interactions with the Gissu is looked down on. Casting water or Ice magic is seen as a affront against the Lord Beirunes and any fire elf doing such a thing is immediately branded a heretic. Even though Imara was the daughter of the Fire God's trusted priestess, she was chased out of the Caverns onto the surface of Izi. Because she isn't a full fire elf, she wouldn't last and the elves of Jirra were glad to have finally gotten rid of her!

I don't know how to explain to Imara that her dad would have passed away over a century ago...

Imara gasped for air, but the thin atmosphere was barely enough for her. Still she pressed on, traveling as far from her home as she could. Her goal was to travel the frozen wstes of Izi until she got to the northern Baria Volcano and into the caverns there, where she hoped more tolerant elves lived. The problem is that she was only 12 hours into the journey and would need three more days to reach her desination. She didn't know how long she would last out in the open.

She didn't have much choice in leaving. Just yesterday, someone saw her using magic to water some plants in the forest outside town. Imara thought she hid herself well enough that no one would notice, but immediately there was shouting from across the woods.

She ran home, but before the end of the day, a large mob of angry elves assembled outside her home. Her mother Ascenda was away and any attempts by her Aunt Lumia to calm the crowd failed. Imara made the decision to leave Grand Jirra to avoid any more trouble. Lumia did try stopping her, but Imara had enough. She was done living among people that hated her.

Imara made it to the village of Eduru-Ki on the outer edge of the caverns. News that Imara was a heretic had already spread there. She was pelted with stones as she ran towards the gate. She darted outside jumping on an anzu beast and rode away.

Almost immediately after reaching the outside, Imara started to feel lightheaded. The air was much thinner than in the caverns and this was when Imara learned the limits of her patrial Blessing of Beirunes. A few hours into her journey, she developed a headache and had trouble telling the direction. She saw the great world Tarsuros on the horizon to her north. She knows the Baria Caverns are in that direction where other Fire Elves live. She heard from traders that there was a lava river, then a large dark tower, and from there the volcano over the caverns would be visible.

About a full day after leaving Jirra, Imara reached the lava river, called Rune's Patience. The dark tower was a mile away on the other side, but the Baria Volcano was not in view yet. She figured she was only at the halfway point at best. Her vision was blurry and she had trouble keeping herself upright on her mount. Her fingertips were turning colorless and her lips were dry. She felt like she would fall over at any moment, but she pressed on.

Imara coaxed her anzu to wade into the lava river and cross it. The beast at first acted as if it wasn't going to, even backing up for a moment, but then it approached the lava. It sniffed the glowing liquid then licked the surface. The anzu then took several large gulps before lumbering on. At the deepest point in the river, the lava went up to the creature's shoulders and was inches from Imara's feet. The burning heat was quite uncomfortable, but it wasn't harming her yet. She did still have some of Beirune's Blessing after all.

Just as Imara got to the other size, a bright flash of light caught her eyes. A few hundred yards away, there was a pack of magma wolves, surrounding a small group of people. The anzu noticed the magma wolves as well and got enraged at the presence of its natural enemy. It lowered its head, wanting to charge into the pack. It took everything Imara could do to keep the beast calm. She was wary of the beast getting into an unecessary fight, but she was curious about who was fighting the magma wolves. She went on and allowed the beast to get a little closer.

As Imara got closer, she made note of the strange people. Their skin came in various tones and they had hair ranging from red to brown and black, with several individuals having colorful blues, greens, and even white. Their clothes were all brown in appearance with large silver armored plates covering vital areas. They all carried bright metallic weapons which were quite different from her people's crystal and stone weapons. They didn't appear to be fire elves.

As they got closer the Anzu lost its patience and charged at the largest group of Magma wolves it saw. Imara was too weak to control it. She gripped the straps of the saddle and braced herself for impact. The Anzu then crashed into several wovles. Imara then noticed that many of the people she just helped had round ears. They were like her!

This exciting revelation didn't last long though. Imara had a coughing fit and started gasping for air again. Her head hurt, she was dizy, and was having trouble gripping the saddle straps anymore. As some of the strange people approached her, she passed out and fell.
