The Fae are as much of a living thing as they are a phenomena. They are the world made manifest. They do not hold a distinct culture, but are widely scattered across the world in the form of folk tales due to their hesitance to directly interact with the mortal world.
Impressionable Sprites
An important thing to note about Fae is that all of them begin as a
Sprite; a miniscule, invisible, and unseen fleck of energy that silently learns and grows from the environment around them. These sprites remain unseen, and spontaneously appear over time, but are typically made manifest with the initial intention to develop into a specific Fae.
Fae all begin their life as a Sprite; a miniscule, invisible, and unseen speck of energy that silently learns and grows from the environment that surrounds them. Though invisible, they spontaneously appear across the world. Certain Fae will sometimes nurture or create these sprites with the intention of creating more of themselves.
These sprites record all things that happen within their surroundings. Much like a learning child, the Sprite learns how to act and grow depending on what happens around it. When the time comes, they manifest into a unique creature that works to perpetuate what created it in the first place.
Yokai are known to hunt sprites with the sole intention of corrupting or perverting them into their own.
Yokai
A
Yokai is a corrupted Fae spirit, manifest from questionable events or happenings that slowly twisted the sprite towards a darker path. While not many Yokai are necessarily
evil in their own right, they are often considered hostile and dangerous due to their nature leading them to perpetuate what created them.
Redcaps are among the most notorious of the bunch; a race of unstable, bloodthirsty
Yokai that manifest from murder.
Hags also remain as a dangerous example; being sowers of misery and sorrow.
Yokai are corrupted Fae spirits, manifested from disastrous events such as bloodshed, violence, and war.
Perpetual Nature
When Fae or Yokai are born, they're created with the instinct to help perpetuate what created them. This isn't just an urge, but a necessity for their continued existence. Much like how people eat, they continue their existence by following the same cycle that created them.
Dryads, for example, are defensive over trees and are known for spreading the reaches of their forests in order to not just help create more of themselves, but to survive and flourish.
Nixies are likewise inspired to keep rivers clean and unpolluted; lest the pollution manifests the Youkai of their kind, known as the
Nuckelavee.
Yokai are no different, but are perpetuated by dangerous cycles such as violence, destruction, or even murder.
Worship
Worship of the Fae is very common; it's mostly known for being the center of worship for the
Elves and
Fianni in particular. This worship is often seen as a mutual benefactor moreso than genuine worship. In exchange for tribute, they draw out boons and blessings from the Fae that they worship.
Fae can be and often are worshiped individually if they're strong enough, however, the most common form of worship around them is within the
Wild Gods; particularly powerful Fae that have grown so influential that they're capable of shaping the very world with their existence. They're a personification of the world itself, and thus shape the flow of Veska's very nature.
