Visismolian Principality
Visismolia's occupied land is old Altonian land acquired over one hundred years ago. Though separated from Altonia's primary landmass, it shared the same mission: conquer all of East Veilinia to secure peace. Because of the sea between the two, obtaining more territory proved difficult. In the 8300s, this struggle was accentuated by an inability to push beyond Lua. The tribes in the region were formidable fighters, and its neighboring nations, Xocrin and Wescia, refused when Altonia asked for a pinching attack.
In 8318, the empress's son was appointed in charge of the land. After watching this war his entire life, however, he felt that pushing further would be a mistake. Luans were extremely difficult to fight, and despite massively outnumbering them in population, Altonia took most of the losses. In 8319, he refused to continue the assault and seceded from the Empire. He renamed the territory Visismolia after his late father, Ismol.
The war for Lua had persisted so long that even Altonians grew tired of it. For that reason, there was little rebellion. The prince was also popular with the people. His decision was thus rapidly accepted, and after a treaty with Lua, the fighting moved to the South as Altonia unleashed a brutal onslaught to regain their land.
Of all the eastern nations, Visismolia and Lua were the only two not to fall to the Risen at some point. Although east and south Visismolia collapsed due to Wescia's failure and Altonia's continued raid, its west coast was well prepared. Cities such as Axrigh built massive east-facing walls and are yet to relent against the Risen's onslaught.
Culture
Visismolian culture is highly influenced by the Luan War. The citizens do not see war as Altonians do and refuse to use it as a tool. In the few years before the Rising, most people had already lost connection with the honor of being a soldier. They merely fought to defend their nation, not for fame or glory. It's common for Visismolians to be opposed to authority, notably if it has led them wrong.
Public Agenda
Since the nation's secession, its goal has been prosperity without war. Given its location, the Altonian mission doesn't make much contextual sense. Neither Wesci nor Luans leave their borders. The goal was to adopt a similar way of life: to be satisfied with what the nation already has.
