Parker, Goto, and Kochmann Inc.
Parker, Goto, and Kochmann Inc. or PGK, is a corporate conglomerate consisting of many different corporations and groups that base themselves out of @New Singapore. As a conglomerate, their combined power makes them one of the largest power structures on earth and the closest to being an actual nation state like those from The Old World. Their early project creation of the Acropolis Project and the expansion into New Singapore, PGK was able to survive when many other groups faded into obscurity.
History
Origins
The senior companies of @Parker Pharmaceuticals, @GoTo Holdings, and @Kochmann Private security were founded far before the Fall and in the cause of Parker and GoTo, already international companies. GoTo especially had huge holdings all over the world and excelled in supermarkets, convenience stores, all the way to mega malls, which are still excavated today by Necrodivers. While Kochmann did exist at the time, they were a rather small scale paramilitary group that didn't deal with very large contracts and kept to small engagements.
Rising Instability
As the the old world started to destabilize during the events of The Fall, opportunity started to rise in the chaos. With rising food costs, the need for medical supplies, and political strife needing higher security measures, Parker, GoTo, and Kochmann started to expand to better heights then they did in the past. GoTo initially had a bit of a loss with the @Kyushu Bloom, and other incidents, where mega malls were hit rather hard and became unsustainable. What GoTo did have, however, was an extensive network of supply chains. The senior partners at Parker and GoTo realized that it would be in their best interests to merge and added Kochmann as well for needed security. This incorporation proved very useful and the newly christened PGK, was able to take their global efforts to an unprecedented level.
An Alternative Life
An Alternative Life, was the tagline of what would become the most ambitious project PGK would undertake. The instability and fall of nation states was something that PGK was an inevitability, with eventually the risk being too great to run an international company of their size. As such, they decided to draft a new project: A city of their own, but one away from any conflict areas, minimizing threats to their economy.
A site for what they would call @Project Acropolis, was chosen in the Java sea for its relatively shallow depth and good distance form most hazardous regions. The project was costly and rather monumental, with an enormous amount of earth and materials being used just to make a landmass that they wanted. The land created was calculated to one day become a megacity, and to be able to sustain it in its early days with good farmland. When the island was finished, PGK moved their headquarters to the Acropolis and with them, about 500,000 of their various employees from around the world at great cost.
The project was seen with skepticism as many large scale projects at the time had been rife with failure, with the most successful one being the @Doggerland arcologies, which had failed at several stages before it became adequately successful. PGK stuck to their plan though and tried their best to sustain their new land.
The Fall
The City on the Hill
Project Acropolis was incredibly ambitious and to many, quite a vain attempt to show the wealth of PGK to the world. The costs were also incredibly high and any other company would have gone into massive debt even half way through the project. As decades passed, it became clear that the project had merits. Crumbling nation states and economy caused PGK to lose much of its assets around the world, but this just drove it to become more centralized. When the worst of the wars and disasters became evident, PGK made its most monumental decision and closed off its ports entirely to the outside, bringing the last of its overseas employees and assets to the Acropolis.
For over a century, the Acropolis stayed completely isolated on their own island, spared from all the problems outside. Their population was large enough to stay healthy and their technology and farmland kept them able to stay self-sufficient for all that time. With the assets they had recovered before isolation and with excess construction materials they had from the original construction, they were able to build a full city in what now is the @Corporate Circles.
Certain shareholders of PGK had different ideas though and a century of contentment did not equal growth, and at the end of the day, PGK was a corporation. The only way they could see growth, was to first see what lay beyond the bounds of the Acropolis and to see what had happened to the Stricken Earth.
Post-Fall and Contemporary Times
The First Expeditions
A more detailed can be found in: @The World Expansion Initiative
When PGK finally decided to finally send out its first set of greetings to the outside world in the form of telecommunications, it returned with very little back. There were no large scale communication networks, with the only communications being small scale local networks. Those pings they did get back were old and generally automatic replies rather than active communication.
With no reply back, the next step was to send out scouts to survey the general state of the world. The first of these expeditions, set out to circle the world the best they could to get a visual example of what the world was like. These expeditions reported such insane sights like whole areas now covered in trees, vast chasms cut out of the world, and areas that seemed to be possessed by otherworldly beings. Most importantly, despite the lack of nation states, many small scales communities had been seen across the world, with human life surviving and flourishing even if large scale groups were not possible.
It was clear the world was not as dead as they first expected and there were resources and humans that would fuel the expansion that PGK wanted. An initiative called The World Expansion Initiative or WXI was started to expand PGK's influence into the world at large and to grow the Acropolis. In the first years of WXI, many of the communities around The Acropolis were contacted and in most cases, a good relationship with PGK was made. These relations were not only to find the situation of local communities, but also to find leads on anything that could help jump-start their expansion.
The Excavation of Singapore
The first great find of the WXI was rumors of the ruins of Singapore. In many of the surrounding areas of @The Acropolis, megastructure and ruins were, for a variety of reasons, inaccessible with the level of technology and resources PGK had. The discovery of Singapore was perfect because it was both in close proximity to the Acropolis, but also was relatively untouched by war and the environment, only in disrepair from a century of neglect and abandonment.
Recalling an old tale of excavations in Old World Japan, the excavation of Singapore was the first to utilize Necrodiving as a way of breaching into the Singapore megastructures. While dangerous and exploitative of the environment and those involved, PGK was able to gain a wealth of information and technology to help progress their initiative, as well as the materials to help grow their city even larger. Out of celebration for the incredible boost that the ruins of Singapore gave them, The Acropolis was soon renamed to @New Singapore and would be be called that from that point on, shaping a lot of its growth and architecture based on the old city.
The Start of a New Nation
A more detailed description of this system can be found in: @Refuge and Immigration System of New Singapore
By contemporary times, New Singapore had grown to a true megacity, fueled by the technology and people they had contacted. The lure of living in a city with amenities from The Old World and a without the dangers of the outside world brought many people and groups that now made New Singapore their home. While PGK originally was rather lax once opening their borders, wanting to grow their city, the sheer amount of people that joined led to a creation of a system to separate groups depending on their usefulness to New Singapore.
While immigration was still allowed in New Singapore, those who could not pay initial fees and then find sponsorship a year later would be regulated to the Refugee district, with generally little hope of expanding out of the refugee status. This system cemented New Singapore as a shadow of the old nation states, with PGK as the de facto leaders of the final urban civilization.
Organization
Leadership
Board of Directors
The board of directors consists of traditionally two representatives from each of the three senior partners of the conglomerate, the elected officers of PGK, and the Major Shareholders. While the elected officers: the CEO, CFO, Director of PR, President, and Vice President are chosen by the Board of Directors, the Major Shareholders work a bit different. While in The Old World, shareholders actually held shares of the company when it was publicly traded, there is no real stock market system in contemporary times, so Major Shareholders are more just positions that are inherited from families that were once rich patrons of of company. Many of them did survive the move to @The Acropolis and have continued to support the company to contemporary times.
While not a tradition, the CEO has been held by those not of the senior partners, and instead someone from one of the Major shareholders. While it has gotten close in certain times in the past, the basic premise behind keeping representatives from the senior partners out of the CEO position is to not create bias of PGK's direction towards any one of the senior partners.
Management
PGK's layers of bureaucracy has persisted into contemporary times and have stayed relatively the same, utilizing the general company structure of multiple departments with their own Managers, Supervisors, and Leads, with line employee positions at the bottom and the most numerous. PGK tries to keep a meritocracy for their hiring standards for each position, but favoritism and a bit of corruption as well are quite common among especially lower management.
Unique Departments
Outside of the standard financial, human resource, and custodial departments, PGK has departments that are unique to it, that uses the combined efforts of all the senior partners and subsidiaries to perpetuate certain projects and structures that further the PGK agenda as a whole.
The New Singapore Project
A more detailed description can be found in: @New Singapore
Originally Project Acropolis, The New Singapore Project is the flagship project for PGK to create a human made island and to create a new city away from the hazards of the outside world that was rather prevalent during the time of its creation. Considered as completely successful, the current department has moved mostly to maintaining the structure of New Singapore and presides over the various entities that keep New Singapore running, such as public transit, commercial areas, and property management.
World Expansion Initiative
A more detailed description can be found in: @World Expansion Initiative
PGK's horizoning project which deals with raising PGK influence throughout the world. Those part of the initiative oversee the construction of new projects and constructions outside of New Singapore's borders, maintain and expand New Singapore's network of contacts between international groups, and to explore new opportunities around the world.
The Refuge and Immigration System
A more detailed description of this system can be found in: @Refuge and Immigration System of New Singapore
While immigration to @New Singapore is open, anyone who enters its borders through legal means is adherent to the system created to classify incoming groups that mean to settle in New Singapore. Those part of the system are not only responsible for the initial entry for an individual, but also to facilitate those who try and go down the path of becoming a citizen of New Singapore.
Subsidiaries
Senior Partners
Parker Pharmaceuticals
One of the first two companies that made up PGK, Parker Pharmaceuticals had humble beginnings as a Pharmacy in the old world, eventually growing to become a major international company during the fall, providing medical support for populations across the world. In contemporary times it continues this business, but also has extended into all applied sciences involving new discoveries.
GoTo Holdings
Once the largest retail and supermarket corporation in the world, GoTo holdings faced harsh downsizing during the fall and only survived by merging with Parker Pharmaceuticals and Kochmann PSC. Though not to the size that it used to be, GoTo Holdings has succeeded as part of PGK and its most successful venture, GoToMart, is said to be on every street corner in the city and has expanded to even being in areas outside the borders of @New Singapore.
Kochmann Private Security
Though not part of the original merger, Kochmann PSC was eventually made a senior partner for both their loyalty and effectiveness at protecting Parker and Goto's interests during the fall. In New Singapore Kochmann serves various different roles, such as policing and investigations. They also serve as security for any expeditions that PGK does outside of New Singapore. Recently, Kochmann has also expanded into arms manufacturing.
Notable Subsidiaries
PGK Banking
With most monetary systems involving New Singapore in some way, PGK has a monopoly on banking, with all transactions audited through their system. While there are a few private credit unions, such as the one ran by the Necrodivers Union, they are created only after a contract with PGK Banking has been established. Smaller branches have successfully been sent overseas, utilizing PGK's world wide network to keep consistency.
PGK Communications
Shortened to PGKCom, PGKCommunications provides cellular and internet support to all of @New Singapore, while also maintaining communications with remote outposts and holdings outside of New Singapore via localized networks connecting with abandoned satellites that have been hacked and changed to serve PGK's interests.
