Necrodivers Union

The Necrodivers Union or the NDU is an organization founded by Necrodivers to support and facilitate Necrodiving within the surrounding areas of @New Singapore, which the NDU refers to as the East Asian and SEA Theaters. It acts as advocate, insurer, mediator, and often guardian to all of its members, bringing order to the chaotic nature of Necrodiving.

History

Formation

Survivors of PGK's Excavations

In the early days of @New Singapore, PGK invested a large amount of resources and personnel to excavate the ruins of @old world Singapore. While these excavations brought prosperity to PGK and started to grow New Singapore into the megalopolis it would eventually become, the first Necrodivers that were employed to excavate the ruins took the full brunt of exploring a new unknown world that awaited them. Consisting of mostly scientists and security officers, many fell to the hazards that lay in the sealed ruins. Those who were survived were scarred from the experience and were given the cold shoulder by PGK, who promptly let go these survivors, deeming them unimportant as New Singapore had already given up its treasures to them and further excavations were uneeded.

The viability of Necrodiving had been proven and other organizations outside PGK sought to continue this industry. The survivors, at least the ones that were able to fight their mental scars and make it as Necrodivers, were approached and became the first generation of true Necrodiving.

A Need for Aid

Within the first decade of the industry, it became apparent the gap between the older and newer Necrodiver crews. The bigger crews had a monopoly on most of the larger contracts and most importantly, the knowledge and connections. Without knowledge and connections, the newest Necrodivers had a low survival rate, many dying instantly to things such as Blood Bats or improper excavation procedures. Others to fell to scams or low paying alternatives to proper Necrodiving such as Pit Diving: open excavation without the protection of Drill rigs. This bred an animosity between the new and experienced Necrodivers and the future of the industry looked less viable.

In a charitable turn of events, the experienced crews came together to form the Necrodivers Union, an organization tasked with aiding all of its members, with the only qualification for membership is an interest in Necrodiving.

To lay a foundation for the future of Necrodiving, the NDU acknowledged three goals it would try and accomplish immediately. The first task was to offset the high costs of staging Necrodives from the land offered up by PGK that had been converted into a staging area, by completely taking over the costs. The second was to create a way to connect crew with new candidates and to create a culture of camaraderie. And the final goal was to raise the survival rate of all members.

The First goal was able to lower the bar of entry to Necrodivers as paying an high upfront cost before each dive was a rather expensive endeavor. The second goal saw the rise of Necrodiver bars and started to grow the close culture that exists today. And the final goal gave rise to one of the most important items that a Necrodiver carries: The Necrodiver's Handbook.

Organization

Administrative

Leadership

The Necrodivers union is run by direct democracy, where captains of established crews are allowed to cast a votes for changes in the Union Charter. Annualy, a major assembly is held where captains of established crews bring up issues and vote for charter changes if needed. Any Necrodiver can submit an issue to be sent to the assembly, but as stated before, only established crew's captains can vote. The NGU employs proctors who run assemblies and uphold the charter.

Support Staff

Despite the rowdy nature of most Necrodivers, the support staff of the NDU focus on providing the most helpful and professional service that they can give with guest service that rivals the largest corporations. Trained at the highest level and paid a decent wage, the support staff of the NDU are the backbone of the entire union, dealing with mediation and connections. Support staff are often the first people Necrodivers deal with and will continue to contact them throughout their career. Many former necrodivers also join to become support staff.

Staging Staff

Staging staff are responsible for the maintenance and logistics involved with the Necrodivers Staging Area. They guide necrodivers to their hangers and provide refueling and emergency services if needed. Mechanics also make up a large portion of staging staff, however Necrodivers are expected to pay for fees regarding their services.

Expeditionary Corps

While the NDU does not directly participate in Necrodiving as an organization and only chooses to support it, they do have a small expeditionary corps dedicated to specific duties that may be sent to theaters of Necrodiving.

Survey Corps

The survey corps of the NDU are tasked with following up on leads for possible Necrodiving targets. While they usually cannot give a full report, they can at the very least identify a target as a definite spot to be excavated. For a declaration of a target to be posted, assures that the survey corps has not only surveyed the site, but also used all manners to their disposal such as historic records and context clues to affirm it can be excavated.

Seeker Corps

The Seeker Corps are one of the most respected groups that are involved in Necrodiving. Seekers are called upon only upon the end of a Necrodiver's life. Once a request is given, a seeker is eventually sent to retrieve either the remains of a Necrodiver, or at the very least, the last of their possessions. Only the brave few are part of the Seeker Corps and with their low number, the time it takes for a family or the NDU to retrieve the last remnant's of a Necrodiver can take many years. Still, the Seekers Corps takes every single request and even reward those who bring back a Necrodiver's remnants they have a request for, before they do.

Services

Personal Services

Basic Guidance

While the NDU doesn't technically have a basic training program implemented at this time, support staff are completely open to guidance and can be asked at any time for basic information and even requested for personal meetings to discuss larger aspects of Necrodiving. Each member is also given a digital copy, and if requested, a physical copy of The Necrodiver's Handbook.

Support staff also dispense a basic aptitude test for new members and record it in the Necrodiver's profile, using the information to further guide a Necrodiver in their career.

Accounting

The NDU keeps a separate accounting system from the @New Singapore accounting system to allow an independent and trustworthy way of keeping wealth to Necrodivers. The system is done with the cooperation of PGK and can be easily transferred between accounts. Many Necrodivers prefer to keep their wealth mostly with the NDU to keep away from the prying eyes of corporations.

Mediation and Advocacy

NDU's charter of lower risk to Necrodivers comes not just protecting them from the risks associated with Necrodiving, but also problems that may arise between crews or sometimes with @Kochmann Security. While Kochmann Public Security services are contracted to take care of any violent outcomes, the NDU prefers to mediate any problems between crews themselves. While technically the NDU acts only on a direct request for mediation, if a disagreement between Necrodivers is especially egregious, they will insist on mediation and an investigation in to the related parties is initiated. Generally the mediation continues until common ground is found, but with larger matters, the continuation of union membership for related parties may be called into question.

In situations where a Necrodiver is arrested by Kochman Security, the NDU provides an advocate for them. Kochmann Justice is usually quite fast and often very harsh so advocacy is extremely important to mitigate any problems and give Necrodivers the best possible chance.

Community Services

Surveying

Necrodivers rely on the NDU's surveys to find targets for excavation. The NDU is constantly searching for sites around the East and SEA Theaters and post their results for Necrodivers to see and apply for. Even in cases where a Necrodiver comes across a possible target in the wild, they will usually report it to the NDU and issue a survey request. The Survey Corps will then explore the site and then conduct a thorough investigation, consisting with a prediction of complexity and rating the site with their rating system. If blueprints for the target are found, this will be included in the report. Investigations themselves are so important, that established crews will even follow how an investigation is progressing to have an advantage on finding good targets.

Networking

The network of the NDU is one of the most useful tools available to the Necrodiving community. Through the NDU, crews are able to find recruits at a much higher rate, get information about ongoing investigations for targets, and connect to vendors for equipment. For newer crews, the NDU is especially helpful as an intermediary, making sure that they are not overwhelmed with too much choice and offering connections that are more suited for them. There are crews that ask that they are given the full access to the network right away and while the NDU obliges, generally the complexity involved is not something they can handle.

Necrodiver Bars

Necrodivers bars are important to many in the Necrodiver community as they allow for a bit of rest and camaraderie in-between excavations. They also serve as important areas for obtaining recent information and sometimes a bit of wisdom from other Necrodivers who are more experienced.

The NDU supports all Necrodiver Bars by disseminating information to all of them and also runs their own within the Necrodiver Staging Area known as "The Dive's End". The largest of its type, the Dive's End is usually the first place a Necrodiver arrives when they return back from their excavation.
