Triton

Also known as demo-elves, tritons descend from ancient sea elves who made a pact with a the Demonlord of the depth, Gazh in exchange for increased affinity with the ocean and strength.   Like other humanoids, tritons have no special inclination toward conquest, battle, or cruelty, and they can be found in all walks of life. But when the wicked among them fall on desperate times, some use their talents for the violence and subjugation of others.   Tritons lives in the ocean depths, building small settlements beside deep trenches, portals to the elemental planes, and other dangerous spots far from the eyes of land-bound folk.

Arrogant protector

As a result of their isolation and limited understanding of the Material Plane, tritons can come across as haughty and arrogant. They see themselves as caretakers of the sea, and they expect other creatures to pay them deep respect, if not complete deference. Tritons also have a tendency to emerge from their isolation under the assumption that other folk will welcome them as respected allies and mentors. Again, distance drives much of this attitude. The tritons’ limited view of the world leaves them ignorant of the kingdoms, wars, and other struggles of the surface world. Tritons readily see such concerns as minor events, a sideshow to the tritons’ role as the world’s true protectors.   Their attitude might grate, but when pirate fleets prowl the waves, they are among the first to take up arms to protect relcaim the oncean as theirs. Their self-absorbed nature makes them overlook the history of other creatures, but they also endure a sense of guilt over the genesis of their kind due to evil forces. The tritons believe they owe a debt of honor to the world, and they will fight and die to pay it.

Strangers to the Surface

Given their isolation, most tritons have never been to the surface world or the material plane. They struggle with the idea that they can’t easily move up and down out of water, and the changing of the seasons mystifies them. Tritons also find the variety of social institutions, kingdoms, and other customs bewildering. For all their proud culture, they remain innocent of the surface world. A triton on the surface becomes easily confused by the bewildering array of alliances, rivalries, and petty grievances that prevent the surface folk from truly unifying.

History

Genesis

When a group of sea elves sought power from the gods, the demonlord of the depths, Gazh, answered their call instead, reveled in the opportunity for vengeance against the king who had condemned him to the bottomless abyss. Eager to exact his revenge, Gazh granted the elves immense power, enhancing their affinity with the ocean. However, this newfound strength came at a terrible price—their sanity. Driven mad by their overwhelming abilities, the sea elves began launching brutal, unprovoked assaults on underwater creatures and civilizations.   Their relentless aggression soon earned them a new name among those who dwelled beneath the waves: Tritons. Over the ages, they started to regain their sanity, but their brutal campaign of destruction as granted them a reputation as terror of the depth, as a species of demon warriors.

War with the titan

In ages long past, the tritons launched an assault on the Sahuagin residing in what would later be named the Gulf of calamity. The Sahuagin were shielded by Tromokratis, the Kraken, who obliterated the invading forces, exacting a heavy toll on the tritons in order to safeguard his devoted followers.   The tritons, facing the wrath of Tromokratis, fled for their life, following their king to the great ocean, south of the Dream forest. Together, they established a new settlement in the ocean, offering hope for peace to the Tritons. Faced with the overwhelming power of Tromokratis, the Tritons sought allies in the form of sea elves and merfolk, collectively forming the Great Sea Civilization.   The sea elves' initial decision to join the Great Sea Civilization was heavily influenced by their devotion to Jan'ahrem, the goddess of the sea. Jan'ahrem, perceiving Tromokratis as an untrustworthy entity incapable of upholding the values of the creatures residing within his realm beneath the sea, and she sought to assert her dominance over him. To achieve this, she recognized the necessity of her sea elves followers with the merfolks, and tritons. Through this alliance, Jan'ahrem gained the collective strength and determination required to confront and challenge the titan Tromokratis.   In the midst of the battle, as Tromokratis led an all-out assault against the united forces of the sea elves, merfolks, and tritons, the situation grew ever bleaker. Dragon turtles threatened the sea elves' capital of Vellamorn, savage Sahuagin armies clashed with the merfolk of the Gulf of mermaids, and the Titan Tromokratis himself descended upon the tritons, seeking to crush them.   It was during these harrowing moments that the Triton King, a valiant and noble leader, faced Tromokratis alongside champions of the sea elves and merfolk. Together, they harnessed the power of the magic-imbued crystal, determined to seal the Titan's might. However, in the epic confrontation that ensued, the Triton King made the ultimate sacrifice, giving his life to protect his people and seal Tromokratis' devastating power.   The Triton king death was deeply morned by his daughter, Morganyn to grieve deeply. From that day forward, a profound hatred for Tromokratis took root in Morganyn's heart, eventually driving her to become the protector of the coven crystal and the queen of the Tritons.
