Święto Strażników Gwiazd
Otherwise known as the Feasts of the Guardians of the Stars.
These are holidays celebrated in Toresta, (and indeed in other places), on the Spring Equinox and the Fall Equinox in honor of Astraios and Noctis. Both twins are honored on both days, though the festivities do tilt in the spring to Astraios and in the fall to Noctis.
As Astraios and Noctis are considered patrons of Toresta festivities are considered more important than those days set aside for the other deities. Most businesses not related to food and drink are not open on these days. Many inhabitants of Outer Toresta enter the city to celebrate, bringing their finest wares in the days before to sell at market.
History
The original founders considered the Guardians of the Stars their guides to the Monteplane Peninsula and credited them with the discovery of the Danilov Leyline and the fortunate accident of its improvement. In the first years there the inhabitants made special the feasts of the twin deities. As special as the winter solstice holiday of the Capture of Cassia's Heart is to lovers and magic users, in Toresta at least, the feast days of the Guardians of the Stars is more important.
Observance
The holidays are celebrated with the giving of nominal presents, feasts with family and friends, games, parties and dances.
Among the Founding Families the holiday is celebrated by the throwing of the Stellar Ball, a lavish affair whose host or hostess is rotated through the Founding Families listed in the Sapphire Journal. One need not be listed in the Sapphire Journal to receive an invitation, but such invitations are greatly coveted and to be invited means that more than just a few of the Journal's listees are interested or impressed by the selected guest.
The concept of games extends to the public at large and horse races, special games of skill and chance, and even gladiatorial combat (never to the death) are common on both holidays.
Since shrines to the Guardians of the Stars are located throughout the city the Twin Temple (Bliźniacza świątynia) is typically not too overwhelmed with penitants on these days. A visit to one or the other is almost required though.
