OCT Assault Rifle

An assault rifle developed and used by the HEX Mainframe.   The OCT was developed to be the closest competitor to the Hyperion Federation's Suppressor Assault Rifle. The OCT is cheaper to produce and requires less energy to fire but is not as powerful. Additionally, it uses a form of explosive plasma rather than hardlight. This makes it significantly worse at penetrating armour.   The OCT gets its name from its octuple barrel design. The HM did this to allow it to cool much faster than a conventional, single barrel design and allow it to fire at a higher rate. Also, the barrels are actively cooled using coolant. Because of these efforts, it sports a fire rate similar to that of the Suppressor. Due to the low mass of the plasma projectiles, the weapon has a low recoil and high velocity which gives it a role very close to that of a Suppressor.   It does also make the weapon highly complex. This makes it very difficult to repair without Replicators and makes the weapon less reliable. Although it does not get close to a Suppressor in quality, the HM design still rivals that of the hyperionoites because the HM has a significant numbers advantage. Sheer volume of fire makes up for its flaws.
