Iota Gauras System

A star system orbiting the Zeta Halanet dark matter star, which is owned by the Hyperion Federation.

The Iota Gauras system's most significant feature is its Matrioshka Brain that encompasses the star. There is a non-sentient, self-replicating AI in the system, but it never grew incredibly powerful because there was a maximum population it could process before it began to decline, leading to a nearly constant population through all of history. While it is still not clear who built it, or if it was even built, the HF has studied it and made use of it, carefully. This is why the matryoshka brain was built in the system, it is built from many drones of this AI and forms an integral part of the structure and computation of this megastructure. 

The AI is also used on the other plants in the system. It can now perform a huge variety of roles and is particularly useful for mining and computation as that's what it was designed to do.

The system also has a significant organic population. The AI is kept in control carefully, safe enough to put people on various stations in the system and on the Matryoshka brain. One control measure set out by the HF is to make sure it cant expand beyond any limits set by the HF itself, making use of computer processing issues to prevent expansion. They also put a more significant military force there in case they attempt to overcome this limit.

The matryoshka brain was also very useful to determine the function of this AI as well, allowing them to fully understand it. The AI has become almost entirely HF technologies, so any other faction spies might incorrectly presume that this system is a HF black project site, especially with the defence ships and matryoshka brain. The Cypher Dominion and Grand Artanat Empire were led to this conclusion.
