Deep Space Rescue Kit
A large piece of kit designed to rescue anyone who fell off a ship and drifting into the Black.
Kits like these are used mostly by the Tranal Nomads, though other factions can adopt similar tools as an extra preventative of the dangers of EVA missions.
Several large items come with these kits such as very long and long ropes or rope like materials, drones for moving the rope into place, large motors which will reel the person in after they grab the drone, as well as several joints to mount it on a ship. Some factions, most commonly the TN, even attach ropes like this permanently to the structure of the ship.
After fixing the rope joints to the ship, the drone is launched, making its way to the lost individual. It slows down as it gets close so the person can grab onto it and be reeled back onto the ship. Though some very long ranges are possible, it's range is limited by the length of the rope, though some kits are longer than others. Some factions might have dedicated rescue ships meant for performing this role, often with multiple kits for redundancy or the very rare situation where multiple people have fallen off the ship at once.
Dedicated rescue kit users are sometimes stationed on these items, though as the situation of someone falling off is rare, so they are often put to work on other jobs. They are expected to use these kits very effectively as they train for a very long time on them.
Exact composition can also depends on the faction. HF ones are very rare because the risk of one falling out of a ship is extremely minimal. These drones often don't have the long rope and it can bind itself to the armour of any species. They are then flown or teleported back to the original ship.
The XC has largely done away with ropes as well, and their rescue kits were partially inspired by those of the Hyperion Federation.
Even the TN are experimenting with ropeless kits to maximise their range. A drone would often need to attach itself to any lost Banfranal in order to return to the launching ship, and this is a technology the TN needs more than any other modern faction.
The Cypher Dominion and HEX Mainframe might do away with these entirely, as the consciousness of the lost person can be transferred to a new body, despite this not always being available. This mostly depends on their species, as it is much easier to do this as a robot then to an organic.
The Karnol Caretakers also use them mostly on ships with an organic population. Once again, a machine intelligence can be easily moved to a new machine.
Sulethis Republic starships have no crew, and thus have no rescue kits.
