Verdath
Verdath is not a kingdom. There is no throne, no court, no capitol. It is a land ruled by the wild - and the Twin Gods chosen by them. The land itself pulses with an unspoken will, and in its deepest places, it is said even time bows to root and fang. Blight and the Carrion Hunter are the eyes in the trees that all must be wary of if they dare venture into the wilds, which isn't to say that their beasts aren't just as fearsome.
Long ago, a failed conquest sent Verdath down the path it currently lies. A division of Sanctia's Chosen - the Calderai - sought to tame the land. Instead, they were devoured by it. Nature chose its saviours and fought hard. The Calderai were swallowed whole by untamed wilds and beasts in the dark expanses under tall canopies. To be near the state is to know its pull and the aura of nature unchecked. Most never see the gods directly - but most do not need to. Even standing near its borders, the land feels different. Winds carry foreign pollens. Animals grow into unnatural shapes. The effect of mutated flora and fauna extends even beyond its borders. Brief forays bring nightmares to the brave, where they wake to a creeping vine wrapped around their leg.
It is said that the only thing that lies in Verdath are gods and the beasts they keep. But some believe that the Calderai are more resilient. That instead of extinction, they were driven into hiding. If this is true, would they fight nature and the gods? Or perhaps worship them, begging for forgiveness and protection.
The truth is difficult to confirm...
