There are some commonalities shared across all locations in Karnatel. These things are in place, understood, or followed everywhere.
In every city of Karnatel, there are teleportation circles. These circles are linked to each other and the city of Sorrow's Tithe. This allows fast movement of resources to Mechspire and facilitates trade with other states when necessary.
There is no standardized religion in Karnatel, but there is a doctrine. Progress is salvation, and Veltraxis is the divine engineer of eternity. Sermons are broadcast not in temples, but played in workshops and labor halls. They speak of ridding the workplace of inefficiencies and studying to progress in The Forged.
The Forged is the bedrock of society. It is not required to enter it, but the unranked are pitied and looked down upon for their lack of inspiration and purpose. All citizens bear a QR code with their rank displayed in the middle. Authority automatons are able to scan these codes to pull up citizens' complete records and add to them. Visitors are not required to have codes, but those who break the law will be branded with one, retrained, and released.
Criminal conduct in the state is not tolerated. 3 retrainings are allotted per person in the state. If these are reached, or if earlier offenses are sufficiently bad, criminals will be sent out and repurposed.
Repurposing is a word known to all citizens of Karnatel, but is rarely spoken aloud. The connotation and fear the word incites is enough to avoid it. It is unknown what it truly means, but theories suggest intense labor camps, mining camps, or becoming the subject of experiments.
Competitions amongst The Forged are guaranteed and celebrated. Festivals occur regularly but do not include parades, but stages and stands showcasing inventions and breakthroughs. At the end of every year, members of The Forged will travel to Mechspire to show their greatest invention in The Ascension Conclave. This festival is the largest event of the year where contestants are whittled down until only 50 remain. These 50 are shown to Veltraxis in his private chambers, where any number of their inventors may be rewarded based on their utility.
