Fort Frostbourne
Established: 1277 AEC
Reclaimed: 1378 AEC by Group Frostbourne
Current Status: Under restoration
Region: Northern Ellara
Climate: Perpetual winter, sub-zero temperatures year-round
Overview
Fort Frostbourne is a reclaimed stronghold located in the frozen wilds of northern Ellara, strategically positioned between the fortified city of Winterhaven and the theocratic city-state of Aubrey. Originally constructed in 1277 AEC during the Battle of Wisen River, the fort was born from a rare alliance between the Moz’zogg, elves, and dwarves, serving as a command post and supply hub in the war against the Bru’gall orcs. It was abandoned by the 1320s AEC, left in ruin with signs of siege damage and possible sabotage.
In 1378 AEC, the fort was rediscovered and purchased by a coalition of investors aiming to reestablish safe trade routes through Ellara’s frozen frontier. Group Frostbourne was contracted to lead the restoration and has since made the fort their base of operations. Officially re-established on the 5th of Alta’Orn, 1378 AEC, Fort Frostbourne now stands as a growing bastion of survival, strategy, and resistance in a harsh and unforgiving world.
Physical Description
Upon discovery, Fort Frostbourne was little more than shattered stone and scattered frames. A 30-foot section of its outer wall had been blasted away—likely by cannon or siege magic—and most of the interior buildings had collapsed or been gutted by time and weather. The main gate was found broken and half-buried in snow.
Restoration efforts, led by Logrhyn Cragborn , are currently underway. The party and their caravan allies have cleared rubble, begun reinforcing structural beams, and re-established basic shelter and warmth. Makeshift defenses have been put in place to guard against roaming beasts and opportunistic raiders.
Strategic Significance
- Positioned between Winterhaven (30 miles (48 km) northeast) and Aubrey (40 miles (64 km) west), Fort Frostbourne sits at the heart of several key smuggling and trade routes now buried beneath snow and secrecy.
- Its proximity to both Ebony Harbor to the northwest and the Evergreen/Moon’zogg territory to the southwest makes it a potential future hub for diplomacy, black market trade, or military operations.
- With few stable shelters in the frostbitten wilderness, Fort Frostbourne offers rare warmth and supply potential to those brave—or foolish—enough to wander The Wastes.
Current Occupants
- Group Frostbourne, the lead adventuring party responsible for securing and commanding the fort.
- A caravan crew of 25+ tradespeople and laborers, contracted to assist in rebuilding and resupplying the site.
- Grimbyle, a small goblin who has taken up unofficial residence as kennel keeper (and aspiring sidekick).
- Temporary allies from Bru’gall orcish scouting parties, after diplomatic negotiations involving a rescued child.
Notable Events
- The Kobold Siege – Shortly after reclaiming the fort, Group Frostbourne repelled an ambush from a kobold raiding party. The fort suffered minor damage, and the group earned valuable experience—and injuries.
- The Dead Sled Incident – A corpse-bearing dog sled led the party to uncover a kidnapped orc child, sparking the group's first tense alliance with the Bru’gall.
- The Dawnrider Arrival – A delegation from Esterholt arrived pompously with rescued investors in tow, adding friction and unwanted attention to the already unstable restoration effort.
