Sapphire Desert
The Sapphire Desert is a vast, arid region in south-central Pyalea, dividing the Adashe Plains and the Southern Wildlands. It is best known and named for its sapphire blue sands, but almost as well known for its grave perils.
The desert spans from the west coast of Pyalea to shores of Wisdom Bay in the east, and from the border hills of Adashe in the north to the Candide and Sabine mountain ranges in the south.
Merchants, traders, and travellers periodically make the journey from Welkin's Edge, through the pass between the ranges, and into the Southern Wildlands. The trip is considered best made as a large caravan for safety and security.
Geography
The region comprised largely of rolling dunes of its iconically coloured sand, broken up by strange rock formations, outcroppings, and caves.
Localized Phenomena
The desert is a mysterious place, with many tales of eerie visitations, missing time, and all manner of phenomena.
Climate
The climate of the desert is largely unchanging year round. It is exceptionally hot during the day, and perilously cold at night. Mesmerisingly glistening sandstorms infrequently sweep through large swaths of the region.
Fauna & Flora
The desert is home to relatively limited life, but is certainly not without. Specialised lifeforms inhabit the sands and rock formations, adding even more perils and strangeness to the region.
Natural Resources
Many daring or dumb folk have ventured into the desert in search of sapphires. Few have ever returned, and none with the precious stones they were seeking.
