Malick Maga
Malick Maga
Malick Maga was a powerful practitioner of the arcane arts, a founder of The City, and the mastermind behind the magical aspects of The Wall.
The Wall
Though the overall premise of The Wall was a collaboration between Malick and several other skilled magicians, it was Malick who first identified and charted the local leylines and the font in the heart of Mount Firebrand. It was then his idea to perpetually fuel the magic of The Wall by tapping into and building upon those leylines.
Using his design and techniques, The Wall was able to be constructed and fulfil its purpose of protecting the newly founded city and its residents from all manner of threats and hazards, but not least of all the eruption of Mount Firebrand that same year.
Death
Malick met an untimely end during the first phase of construction of The Wall. While experimenting and refining his methods of integrating the proposed protective barrier of The Wall into the local leylines, Malick was caught in an unexpected arcane surge while personally connected to the leyline. As a result, he was fully transubstantiated into the leyline.
Non-magical witnesses to the event reported that it all occurred in a fraction of a second, as Malick was instantly vaporised before their eyes. Magical witnesses, however, claim to have been aware of the magician's physical form being stretched and scattered across the expanse of the magical network in a process that seemed to last an eternity.
His final efforts in those ultimately fatal experiments allowed for the safe and successful completion of his work, with protections installed to mitigate and filter out any future surges.
Maga River
In honour of his work and sacrifice, the east-flowing fork of the Amberflow River that runs through The City was named the Maga River.
Family
Malick was survived by a son.
The Maga family name would eventually disappear, but his bloodline continues to this day with his current living descendants Maya Bateleur and her son, Sage Bateleur.
