Howling Hills

The Howling Hills gained their name due to the geographic phenomenon of them being situated in a narrow mountain pass with the Shroud to the north and the Ebonheart Vale to the south. Mist and clouds come from the Shroud and rush toward Lake Ramieé, causing the howling sound as the wind races between the mountain cliffsides. This naturally-occurring wind tunnel has led to an interesting development, however — living in manmade caves carved into the cliffsides here are the Araneid, a race of large, anthropomorphic spiders which hail from the Webreach caverns. Some of the most impressive artificers in all of Thelesia, the Araneid have been able to create a powerful machine to harvest the power of the wind in this region. Little is known about what exactly they do with the power, but suffice it to say that it could be used for a great many things.
