Araneid

The Araneid are a race of large, anthropomorphic spiders which hail from the Webreach caverns. On average, they're 4 feet tall when standing erect, making them one of the shortest races on Alleste. They often work as artificers, constructing some of the finest machinery and magitech in the world. Especially popular are their portable mapping systems and their fully functioning prosthetic limbs. The most impressive work of the Araneids, however, is the invention that they use to harness the energy of the winds in the Howling Hills. Visible from nearly anywhere in the Howling Hills, this invention is really a series of enchantments that they have lain into the stone. When mist comes down from the Shroud on the wind, a freezing enchantment activates and pulls the heat from the mist, instantaneously turning it into snow. This heat is then siphoned quickly inside the caves for use. The snow itself continues further down through the Hills, eventually either settling and drifting at the base of the cliff faces or traveling toward Ebonheart Vale and melting upon contact with the warm air around Lake Ramieé.
