Location
Deep in the northernmost part of the Realms sits a mountain chain, which spans the length of the continent from east to west. In the western parts it opens up and allows for ships to land on the coast. The land there is much more fertile and said to be warmer than in the surrounding regions.This opening in the mountains is known as the Giant's Cleave.

Currently the Fertile Lands are claimed by the Independent Kingdoms, specifically the families Livli and Biehtár. Both of them have grown rich from the crops they grow, specialising in the cultivation and creation of new types of crops.Use
Due to their fertile soil, they are used to grow huge amounts of crops, most of them are used to feed the population of the Independent Kingdoms, while the remainders are sold around the world. The two families ruling the lands have a friendly rivalry and try to outcompete each other by growing more and more extravagant crops each season, their fights among each other a carried out in a a yearly garden show, during the coldest parts of the season. Countless nobles, their head gardeners and those seeking the wonders of the world attend every year, flocking in from around the world. The "Frozen Gardens" are a sight to behold.History
It is said that the fields are so different from the surrounding areas because they were fertilized with the bones of thousands of dead giants that tried to invade and conquer the world of the mortals. They were beaten back by an alliance of the local kingdoms, who took their power away from them and bound them to the land they once tried to conquer.How truthful this is, is still debated. The actual history is much less interesting, our scholars found few events of note in the area, aside from the occasional skirmish in the lands, contesting ownership of the fields. We have found reports that a dragon had made its home there in the past, but its whereabouts are unknown, it may have been slain or moved on by its own volition. Its influence still lingers, with the occasional Dragonborn being born.
On the true History
Technically the giants were the Goliaths from the close by island of the Giants. The history is a cultural remnant of multiple invasion attempts, some by a Goliath warlord, others were retaliatory attacks by the Goliaths after they were attacked in turn.Giant's Cleave used to be much smaller, but with the help of a few mages in the deep dark past, the mountains were opened up much more to allow for the invasions.
