History

Bringer of a New Age

Norria, a land long since untamed, has only known the cruelty of violence and survival for as long as anyone can remember. For centuries, various factions have been waging endless wars for resources and power with no real goals to see change for the better. Historically, no king has been declared to rule over any of its lands, leaving only chieftains and warlords to fight amongst themselves. Darius Harkon famed adventurer and leader of the Storm Guard sought to become king to end the madness that the current Age of Heroes had caused suffering to bring forth a better world for all with many supporting him. While his intentions were true, not all would bow to him, seeing it as the end of their power in the chaos they thrived in, thus beginning the bloody Northern Wars of Unification to bring the defiant to heel.   Much blood would soak the frozen ground of the Continent of Norria over the years of fighting. Still, in the end, Harkon and his force would be victorious, ensuring that his rule would be finally cemented, with his followers proclaiming him the High King of Norria. Despite the turbulent first few years under his rule, the people from all across the land now bow to one ruler, and peace has been maintained under this new Kingdom of Norria. Gone are the old ways that divided its many people with new ideas and laws to allow them to prosper under the rule of the High King to ensure that they are enforced. Only time will tell if this new rulership can maintain its authority or become short-lived and fall back into chaos.

Cultural Significance

Unifier of a Continent

None have genuinely united the lands of Norria under the banner of one ruler in its entire history, which was only controlled by various warlords and tribes throughout its long and arduous history. Many have tried and failed to do so only to gain control of some land or meet an untimely end caused by the enemies they made. The rise of a High King to rule over all the people and land that make up the continent is something generally new that people are still trying to wrap their heads around. Some have learned to embrace this new authority as a positive thing, seeing that wars and raiding have ended, but now they must make peace with their neighbors and obey laws they did not have to before. Some are reluctant to believe that one individual should have authority over them, seeing that they have mainly been under their leaders for much longer than a supposed High King.
