Crimson Crown

All those who wear this crown shall bear the burden in its forging and the hardship that it will follow into rule this kingdom. - Darius Harkon, High King of Norria
The Crimson Crown is the symbol of the High King of Norria, and with it carries all the power and burdens that come with it. The crown is meant to be a burden, for it was forged through blood and hardship to help make it. Even gazing upon its design, one can only see the cold and harsh land from which it was made that one must wear to take up the mantle.

History

Forged In Blood

At the end of the Northern Wars of Unification, Darius Harkon the newly made High King of Norria was left pain and suffering in his triumph over all of that stood against him. His victory left him hollow and only a bitter taste in his mouth for all the lives that were lost, many of them being his friends and companions who died to bring his dream to reality. It would haunt him for the rest of his day, and from it, he would forge his crown to remind him and his future rulers of the cost it took to become a king. It would be made from iron to look like jagged blades sprouting from its base, for it was claimed through the conquest of all that defied him and a single blood ruby at the center for all who perished in the fighting to see the kingdom manifest. All that shall wear it will be bathed in blood spilled by future generations to ensure that the promise of a better world will be kept.

Significance

Burden of Kingship

Many crowns are made to look grand, displaying a ruler's right to rule as a sign of divinity and wealth, something to be honored to wear upon one's head. Yet the Crimson crown is meant to be a stark contrast to this role being one of hardship and sacrifice in the role that was made in creating Kingdom of Norria. To rule is not a luxury, nor should it be celebrated, as a king must ensure that their people's needs are put before their own and that hard choices must be made to ensure those needs are met. It also means that all that wear it shall become a target to all the despised for the power it represents out of fear and hatred. A reminder that a king's role is neither easy nor to be taken lightly, for heavy is the crown to all that bear it upon their head and the responsibilities that follow with it.
